U.K. progressive metallers THRESHOLD hope to have a new fan-club CD released around the same time of their appearance at the Rock Hard Festival in mid-May, featuring a live set recorded during the "Subsurface" tour in Europe last year. The title for the album has not been decided yet, but the band have noticed a few suggestions being made by fans on the THRESHOLD forum.
THRESHOLD's third fan club album, "Wireless", was recorded at the beginning of 2003 and features acoustic recordings of THRESHOLD classics. The selection of material spans the band's entire back-catalogue, including two previously unreleased songs written before THRESHOLD signed their first recording contract ("Conceal the Face" and "Seventh Angel"). Two songs from "Critical Mass" were reinterpreted ("Fragmentation" and "Falling Away"), another two from "Hypothetical" ("Narcissus" and "The Sheltering Sky"), as well as one song from each of THRESHOLD's first four studio albums ("Consume to Live", "Innocent", "Part of the Chaos" and "Lovelorn").
The album was recorded shortly after Jon Jeary decided to leave the band, so Karl Groom assumed bass duties for the sessions as well as sharing guitar duties with Nick Midson. Mac, Richard West and Johanne James complete the line-up for the album.
THRESHOLD guitarist Karl Groom will be at Thin Ice Studios this month producing power metallers POWER QUEST, with Richard West assisting with vocal production. After that, THRESHOLD hope to find time to mix their live album before work starts with another power metal band, DRAGONFORCE.
As previously reported, THRESHOLD have been confirmed for the Rock Hard Festival, set to take place May 13-15 at Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Other groups scheduled to perform at the festival include ACCEPT, CHILDREN OF BODOM, JON OLIVA'S PAIN, MASTERPLAN, OVERKILL, SONATA ARCTICA, THE HAUNTED and UNLEASHED.
The final running order is yet to be confirmed, but THRESHOLD are expected to perform an hour-long set. The band last appeared at this festival in 2003 for a memorable show that was cut short by severe weather conditions.
