Just saw an ad for Rise Above Records, apparently they're releasing some of Electric Wizard's pre-name change stuff, namely an Eternal vinyl and one Thy Grief Eternal one. These should be pretty cool, yes? Anyone heard any of the Eternal/Thy Grief Eternal/Lord of Putrefaction stuff before?

I got the split LP with Mortal Remains. I don't think I've played it since the first week I bought it. There was a lot of doom / death around at the time in the UK (Decomposed, Paradise Lost, MDB, etc) and they didn't seem to have anything special about them. I guess this is another excuse to elevate a band to "cult" status simply because they were pretty much ignored at the time. Still, it might mean I'll get a few $$$'s for the split on eBay :)

Huh, okay, I dunno. I like Electric Wizard, and I really like old British death/doom, and the cover art looked awesome, so I figured why the hell not. Might grab a few MP3's first or something then.

Oh, and I will take this opportunity to ask how Decomposed's full-length is? Any other old (British or not) deathdoom you can recommend? I recently bought the Enchantment album on tape and it might be OK, worth €1 at least

Yeah, that Decomposed is pretty good. It was one of the first things I ever put out. After that they started getting very technical, influenced by the likes of Confessor. They split and two of the guys went on to form Hangnail.

If I'm gonna be honest, my possible favorite Candleshite band was Korpse from Scotland. A great mix of Sabbath riffery, Autopsy-style death / doom and quirky VoiVod-esque parts. I highly recommend the album "Revirgin", which is no doubt somewhere on eBay for about $1.00. It sold bugger all at the time since the band's name no doubt put a lot of folks off, and underground death metal was as popular as herpes in the mid-90's. A sadly overlooked band.

Oh shit, I keep forgetting you ran Candlelight back then (?!?!?) Thanks dude. I don't suppose you still have means of hooking me up with a copy of Decomposed after 10+ years, hehe...

Will check out Korpse (yes that is one shitty name.) Thanks a bunch.
