What do you think is causing the difference this year? If you had to guess, would you say it is one or two particular bands (Sonata), the overall depth (VS at #2), or just a well spread amount of choices?
From the "Band You Most Want to See" poll, we can see that it is pretty spread out which bands folks are most excited about. I'd guess the last choice.

Sonata puts the festival back on the map to the kiddies.
Primal Fear & VS bring back some of the traditional power fans I lost.
Pagan's Mind, Threshold, & Redemption fill the prog quota and the returning draw factor.
Raintime & Communic satisfy those that prefer it a bit darker & heavier.
After Forever hits the suddenly white hot female vox craze.
Firewind has the guitar hero with the cult following.
Showcase appeal is stronger which pushes those on the fence towards going.
What makes this even more unique is that for the first time in six years, I did NOT use a PR firm due to budgetary cutbacks. Those press releases use to go out to over 1,000 sites & contacts which got the word out big time. This year, I only sent three press releases out to Blabbermouth. That's it. The rest where actually put together by the staff at Blabbermouth & Brave Words on their own.

It's seems like everytime I look around, there are new members joining the forum. Glenn has the forum member count jumped much this year compared to others?

Well thought out. All the more kudos to you Glenn for the hard work in consistantly putting together the premier prog and metal festival in the US eight years running. Reputation and word of mouth, particular on the internet, keep it going. I'll raise a glass to you and the continued success of PPUSA!
Don't forget that kiddies are loving Firewind too.
And both of which being at ProgPower makes them totally uncool. Thus the kids will all leave em a month after progpower (they want to see them once last time before SA faces the scene kid excommunication). You might not notice the scene kids though, as ProgPower is not a place to be 'seen' therefore they will be in full cloak and dagger garb. However, if a younger person is wearing a metal shirt from a band who's first album came out before they were born, they are most likely one of them. Feel free to hug them. They need a hug.

I don't have much hate. I just hope that Glenn doesn't try to purposefully go after that crowd. Can I understand from a business side why he'd want to? Sure. Do I love SA and am I glad they are there despite who else friggin likes em? Yes. But I think that Glenn was clear in the past that he intends to go after the regular PP crowd. Just that, because SA has some wider appeal in some other groups, its helped sell tickets as fast as it is.
So yeah. I'm just saying in the future I hope they aren't a 'crowd' that a band is regularly placed into the lineup just to please. If the please by 'default' or whatever, that's fine. =D

All the bands are great this year, but can't wait to see Gus G with Firewind!!! Were bringing 7 people from Peoria this year. Its a great road trip.

I've convinced a good number of people from the Ozzfest board to go to ProgPower USA, and got more into the bands playing that they want to go but can't afford to.
This year my daughter is making the trip with me, and what really pushed her off the fence(other than meeting all the people i talk about all the time) was FREAK KITCHEN and KURCIBLE at the showcase, and AFTER FOREVER, and PAGAN's MIND at the main show. So it's like has been said many times here, "It's the strength of the line-up this Year, it appeals to a cross genre of people".

Yeah kinda, she is really into NIGHTWISH and has been since 2000, so i guess it was the next logical step to enjoy FREAK KITCHEN and PAGAN's MIND.
