Not sure why I haven´t heard of this program until this week. It´s a freeware multitrack midi editor with tablature notation with a clean GUI, stable (no more french screams), without the bullshit (RSE my ass), light and with plugin support. Also works with gp3, gp4 and gp5 extensions. If you ever used GuitarPro you are going to open TuxGuitar and feel right at home because it is pretty much a clone. This is the exactly program I was looking for after the horrendous GuitarPro 6 and I bet that I´m not alone on this.

Some screenshots showing the usual. GM Drums code, tab and partiture, multitrack view, string tunning, instrumment change, scales tool, piano and guitar fretboard, mixer, etc.

Yeah, it's been out for a long while... but unfortunately it doesn't work on Windows 7 64-bit, so I had to quit using it...

I still prefer TabIt for most things.

TuxGuitar fucking BLOWS compared to Guitar Pro 4...

Why? What exactly GuitarPro has that TuxGuitar does not? I mean, besides ugly icons, crash popups in French and a terrible RSE?

The latest GuitarPro looks nice. I will be upgrading soon. I've been really happy with GuitarPro - on Mac anyway.

I have only used the Windows version so I can´t say much about the Mac version (not so great by the commentaries), but the new GuitarPro 6 is way worse than 5 : /
Try the demo before you pull the trigger on this. I can´t stand that drums notation.

Guitar Pro 4 (The 4 is a very important distinction) doesn't have ugly icons, terrible RSE, and the crash popups are extremely rare (and who cares what language they're in?)

GP4 has a way more stable interface, is faster/lighter on the system, and has more/better keyboard shortcuts that just work better.

I will give that TuxGuitar is extremely useful... to covert GP5 files to GP4 :D

Just bought Guitar pro 6, awesome, really impresive. The guitar sound is more real, even with some little amp emulation!
You can use effects in tracks. Really nice to jam with. The new RSE library its about 2 gb.
Sounds great, and its very stable! Check the demo guys!

Tuxguitar is not as complete as GP, that's why I never switched. It lacks some features I really use. Can't remember now because I installed it some months ago, but tomorrow I'll install it and list a few

And by the way, dear linux programmers and fans, enough with the Tux bullshit. We all get that you like that penguin, but enough's enough.

The main problem people have with GP6 is the fact that you can't program drums by typing in the midi numbers anymore... That's really the only thing about it that bothers me.

Hold on a sec - it does not work on Win 7 x64? How so? It works on my system which is listed in my sig - x64 Win 7 as you can see.

Please do. I am new to the program and so far so good, but I would love to check if anything that may be important to me is missing!
