TNATSW Mikes creative peak?

I think we are getting creative peak mixed up with fav track.

Like say. Parinoid is alot of peoples favorite black sabbath record, but sabbath bloody sabbath is definitly their creative peak.

Haha, don't compare me to golfers please!

I think my "peak" is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder pretty much. It's all different from person to person. From my point of view I know I'm still very creative, maybe even more now than what I was in the early days. Those early songs we're easier to write since they more or less relied on harmony guitars and we just blurted them out like there was no tomorrow. Some were really good and some were quite tedious.

I remember one particular riff that never made it unto the "Morningrise" album. It was like something from a gimmick Robin Hood movie. I was heavily into folk music and folk rock at the time and this riff had me and Peter play completely different things, each sounding pretty alright on their own, but played together it sounded outrageously cheesy. I can't say if it was good or bad really, but it surely topped all the riffs on the record in terms of diverse use of harmonics.

I think we're creative in those days for sure, we made a lot of music, but I'm definately still writing as much now.

Cheers guys!
Mike

I think you should include that riff on the upcoming dvd as an easter egg(hidden special feature) :)

so mikael, how about you guys did a re-recording of TNATSW then?:D.I assume that the reason you dont like the production that much is because of the lack of heaviness?
It also would be fun to hear which opeth records production you are most fond of.

I think the new dvd will have tnatsw the way Mike and the band had wanted it in the first place. The magic of live songs, you can change the song to be compleatly happy with it.

if you heard bootlegs of the song, or saw it live. during the " am i like them" mellow part, there is some nice keys underneith it with a spoofed up drum part if i recall.

TNATSW shure has an atmosphere that no other Opeth song can be compared to, but musically there are so many better songs in the Opeth's catalogue. But yeah, I miss the atmospheric Opeth songs... they're too loud sometimes. More quiet moments with just a guitar picking.

Bands only last if their sound evolves enough to where each consecutive album sounds different but not drastically different. I wouldn't say there is one album with a creative peak but rather songs. For example Ghost of Perdition is top 5 for me in Opeth songs but I don't necessarily think Ghost Reveries is Opeth's creative peak

Even though this thread was resurrected I think any thread addressing Orchid or Morningrise deserves regular revision.

IMO, Morningrise reflected Mike in his peak in terms of writing riffs that compliment each other. The dual guitars are mesmorising and I always find myself going back to the beginning with a great appreciation. However I feel that Mike's ability to write albums and sections which compliment each other has improved. And this is really a great thing, because there are positives and negatives associated with the early and late periods.

While MR has perhaps my favourite sections, SL has my favourite overall vibe and interdependence of sections. That being said though, I think Advent is one of Opeth's best in both arenas. But while I like Mike's raw vocals on BRI, I think deep growls on Advent would place it in the #1 spot above When. Maybe.

I don't think Mike has a peak when it comes to creativity. Every time I start thinking that Opeth can't possibly get anymore awesome than they already are, they always prove me wrong. Mike is a genius, that's all it is to it.

ALRIGHT, time to come off as a total pansy, but Mikael Akerfeldt is the best thing to happen to the guitar. Period.

THNfLD>TNATSW imo but GFFGP on GR and SL is far better than GLFJD on KDFDJS nOFN ANDAND SDFNOSDLGJODFK:LDKFJG:LDFJG:LK#$960

Yeah, that about somes up what I got out of this thread.

Honestly, people, I don't think Opeth has reached their creative peak yet.

HAVE SOME OF THAT!!!
