A friend from Atlanta and I are meeting in Houston in mid-May.

I am going to do some research but was wondering if anyone can give any recommendations on bars, restaurants, clubs, etc.. and also on sports and activities like hiking, rafting, etc.

Any places in particular you think we should check out and anything traditional we should do? *I really like sushi and all seafood* :p

You can also add in accommodations. We haven't booked our hotels yet. We will also be attending Paganfest there!!!! :kickass:

Well all I can tell you about is a great venue/bar/burger joint that holds a dear place in my heart - F.B.I. ROCKS #1!

Lots of live music (Texas Madfest was there!) great food (get a burger - seriously! even if you hate burgers, these are beyond great!) and awesome staff! Pool tables, video games, and did I mention good live music?! :p

If you meet Franky or The Bossman, tell them the Texas Madfest crew sent ya!

Have fun!!

I grew up in Houston and there is much to do. It has been a while since I have been home for a long stay so things have changed. I think it was Richmond Avenue that had many bars, resturants, etc.......

You can go to the Kemah baorwalk south of town....... http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/flash_content/flash_content.html

You go go to Galveston Island ( the coast) just go south on 45 and it dead ends there. http://www.galveston.com/default.asp

There's not much hiking as it is flat country. Depending on your duration of stay, you could go to New Braunfels for some rafting....real cool place with a German feel. http://www.newbraunfels.com/ Home of The Schlitterbahn. http://www.schlitterbahn.com/

For Sports, you have the Houston Astros at the Beautiful Minute Maid Park.

Most of the "PAPAS" Resturants are good......Papasittos, Papaduex, Papas steak house, papas seafood. Also Fogo De Choa is there as well?

Cafe Japon on Kirby is very good sushi. Denis' Seafood on Westheimer is my favorite seafood in town. As someone mentioned before, Papa's Seafood is very good also. If you want to try Tex-Mex, I recommend Cafe Adobe - I go there about once a week. I prefer the original one at Westheimer and Shepherd. What Tammy said about FBI#!! They have metal every weekend night. As far as accommodations, I would stay near wherever the fest is. Houston is a big, sprawling town. I would also recommend staying off the freeways during the week between 7 AM and 6 PM!! Enjoy!!
