So, in walked my boss today out of breath, returning from the computer store on campus ... and sets down on my desk, a 15.1" widescreen 2.4 ghz dual core brand new Macbook Pro w/ Leopard and a 150gb hard drive, and says "Here you go, bitch tits."

Yes, he actually said that.

My god, life is good. Also, I love my job.

Last week when I reported to my first day of work there were dual 17" LCD's set up at my desk. Almost right away my boss goes "don't worry, you won't have these for long...two 22" widescreen LCDs will be delivered here for you tomorrow" :)

I'll take the 17" LCD monitors. Hell, I'd settle for ONE.

Everyone on my floor at work got new LCD monitors to replace our aging CRTs....except me, since my cubicle was marked as a 'visually impaired' cube. True, a visually impaired employee used to sit there.......well, hell, now there's another one sitting there! :heh:

So a CRT is better than a LCD for someone that's visually impaired?

Nope. The cube originally had Braille touch equipment and other neet goodies. That equipment was replaced by a CRT monitor when I moved in, but the cube was bypassed for monitor 'refreshment' because it was flagged as a VI cube. Your government bureaucracy at work. :)

And now there's no money left for more LCD monitors.

Nice to hear that some companies spend to upgrade their technology. Congrats!! Where I work it seems we're still in the TRS-80 (okay, someone other than me has to remember that) world. Although good news did arrive just yesterday as the torches we use to light our office will be replaced by gas lamps and we're also finally getting running water.....

they're doing a monitor refresh in my office and they're replacing our current flat screens with huge wide screens. My old boss is selecting the order they are given out in, so I'm sure I'll be the last to get one if I get one at all.

Leopard sucks, but other than that - sweet deal! :kickass:

About a year ago I jokingly told my boss I wanted a Mac and I ended up with a sweet MacPro, 23" HD Cinema Display (the 30" felt like too much to ask for) and Parallels for all the Windows crap.

At home everything's been Apple for years.

Visual differences are only part of the annoyance. Who the hell needs transparent menus? It does the job, though, and my husband assures me it works much better on Intel Macs than on PowerPC ones (at home we upgraded only the iMac, which is a couple of years old). I've postponed updating the MacPro at work - I'm perfectly happy with Tiger right now.

How's the experience so far? How did you decide to run Windows? I use Parallels.

As far as the bragging stuff goes...

Got to hit a hockey game for free last night - and the Caps beat the Leafs in a pretty decent game... It was a home & home, back to back nights so flying from Whor-onto to DC and playing again I'm sure was pretty rough on both teams.. BUT Johnson was on FIRE last night...

Got to see more live games!!!! Even if it's up in the Eagles nest...

Okay, all this talk about getting new computers for work is really starting to upset me. I work for a major aerospace company that deals in the billions of dollars, and my computer at work is a frigging Compaq, you have to be kidding me! With a 17 LCD monitor. This computer is so slow and so old it is pathetic, and there are really no plans in place to replace any of them, in fact we just got the LCD monitors about 6 months ago, before that we were using these huge 22" CRT monitors. Give me a frigging break, we pay our executives in this company millions in bonuses, yet we can't buy decent computers. Oh yeah, and we are only allowed one pen and one pencil and one note pad per month per employee. Talk about cutting expences.

Dude, I worked for a tech company before this where it was our job to fix PC's for buisnesses and such. We were at a time, 8 techs. We had to share 3 computers, 2 of which were Pentium 2's. and all of which had CRT screens. Most of the techs actually brought in their own laptops to work off of. This was not a poor company by any means. Over the course of a year and a half, I did NOTHING but bitch to my boss, who bitched to the owner. We ended up getting the ok to.. get this.. buy computers off EBAY for the replacement, but only 2. And we FINALLY got the OK to "upgrade" to 15" LCD's. It was fucking terrible and I quit that place so fast... You can't support people without equipment, and if you don't provide the tools your employees need to do their job, they're going to resent you.

zimbee: I installed Vista with bootcamp on the Mac, and it works great. It doesn't work at all with Paralells and I haven't had any time to play with the Mac OS yet. Otherwise, I <3 this laptop.
