"Après un premier album, All Alone, en 2007 qui concrétisait des années de jeu communes de 3 Norvégiens amateurs de TYPE O NEGATIVE, MY DYING BRIDE ou THE 3rd AND MORTAL COIL, TO CAST A SHADOW s’affirme en tant que groupe avec un deuxième opus, In Memory Of, qui voit le groupe continuer sur sa lancée en compagnie de Gunnhild HUSER, la chanteuse qui avait terminer le premier album. Le premier titre de cet album va d’ailleurs en surprendre plus d’un, "Tormented" avec son riff rythmique moderne est bien loin des standards du Gothic Metal et il faut bien avouer que l’on préfère nettement ce qui vient après, que ce soit les titres Gothic tels que "Morose", qui évoque très largement THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, ou le lancinant "In Memory Of" qui rappelle une certaine période de PARADISE LOST, ou bien les titres Gothic Doom comme "When You Leave The Room". Le groupe ne manque pas une occasion de vous sortir de votre torpeur avec quelques passages empruntant au Death Metal, avec une voix Death en complément qui casse également la monotonie que la voix de Gunnhild instaure. En effet, si la demoiselle chante bien, elle reste cependant sans cesse dans le même registre qui heureusement se trouve renforcer par une variété instrumentale bien élaborée, avec un milieu d’album down tempo avant un réveil tonitruant sur la fin. Les Norvégiens ont concocté là un bon album, pas de quoi crier au génie, mais on se laisse très facilement embarqué par l’univers de TO CAST A SHADOW et ce deuxième album devrait autant plaire aux amateurs des premiers THEATRE OF TRAGEDY que ceux d’un MY DYING BRIDE gothique à souhait. L’ensemble se tient bien grâce à une production homogène, même si elle manque un peu de peps, cet album enregistré par Kristian SIGLAND (THEATRE OF TRAGEDY) renferme d’ailleurs un "Betula" qui voit Nell SIGLAND venir pousser la chansonnette mais ce n’est pas là le fait le plus marquant de cet album tant la prestation de la vocaliste de THEATRE OF TRAGEDY s’intègre (un peu trop ?) dans l’ambiance générale. Une bonne surprise pour les amateurs de Gothic Metal en ce début d’année." [Aymerick "Painless"]

Su primer disco se tituló “All Alone”, en el 2007, y ahora de la mano de Kolony Records, nos presentan este segundo titulado “In Memory of”.
Este nuevo disco, fue grabado en los Hamar Recordings de Noruega con el productor Kristian Sigland y masterizado en Leon Music Studiode Suecia por Rikard Lofgren. Como invitado especial está Nell Sigland, cantante de THEATRE OF TRAGEDY en la canción "Betula". El diseño de la portada es de Matthew Vickerstaff.

Ellos mismos se definen como un grupo de doom/gothic metal. Es una definición que si que les puede venir bien, por que la pesadez de los temas, aun no siendo grande, si que es.
Este segundo disco para mi, es el descubrimiento de este tipo de estilo, ya que su anterior trabajo me lo salté, bien por desconocimiento o por falta de interés, pero cuando llegó este “In Memory of” a mis manos, quise comentar estas líneas ya que para todo hay un principio, y quizás este sea el de mi intromisión en el doom/goth metal que tratan de hacer.

Pero lo que destaca es la oscuridad que le pueden dar a veces. Personalmente le saco ciertas influencias de unos Paradise Lost de la primera época, pese a que tienen a una cantante, que por cierto su tono de voz es agradable y hace que el disco no sea nada monótono. Su contrapunto masculino es el típico para este tipo de música, que aunque no aparece en todas las canciones, cuando lo hace, como en “Oceans Apart”, lo hace al más puro estilo doom y con una buena gravedad en su tono.

El acompañamiento instrumental es una música doom metal de raíces. Si realmente quieren empujar el adjetivo gótico, puede ser engañoso, porque no tienen mucho que ver con los grupos Goth actuales. Epica y Anatema quizás sean los nombre que más recuerde y The Gathering o Sirenia, son nombres que evocan a estos sonidos.
No hay puntos débiles en entre canción y canción, no hay ninguna mala palabra. Su estilo está haciéndose, no está definido del todo, ya que las canciones tienen variaciones que les pueden acercar a todo lo que dicen que hacen e incluso a algo más.

Canciones como "Nightfall" crean un paisaje frío, como la malla escalofriante del aullido de sirena de Huser con melodías suaves, mientras que las melodías lánguidas de "Oceans Apart", es de los destacados del álbum.
“Betuna” es la canción más corta del disco, además de ser una canción ambiental, sin guitarra alguna, más bien sirve de lucimiento para la voz misteriosa de Gunnhild Huser

Lo que está claro es que el ambiente que consiguen es único, y puede ser un lanzamiento interesante para este año. Habrá que seguir la pista a este grupo abanderado de Kolony Records, que como sean así todos sus lanzamientos puede ser algo interesante.

"To Cast A Shadow's tale begins with a group of three friends coming together in a basement to play loud and pounding grooves, and this record, their second is simply fine metal from these Norwegians. It is mostly subtle, melodic doom, but sometimes it wields classic metal and black metal atmospheres, and this metal feel is displayed in opener 'Tormented', with vocals being shared between male grunt/growls of Marcus Granlien, and the angelic voice of Gunnhild Huser. The slower 'Morose' is a more doomy morose number and is actuallly based on a true story - awesome and at times operatic vocals from Gunnhild. 'Nightfall' and 'Oceans Apart' keep the kinda Melodic Doom momentum going, but certainly there is an emphasis on melody that bubbles underneath the surface, and I like my melody. 'Betula' features Nell from THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. A nice short little song, this one - too short perhaps! 'My Misery' ups the tempo a wee bit with metal guitars coupled with Gunnhild's awesome vocals, and the background growls of Marcus. 'When You Leave The Room' has some heavy, classic doom metal chords, while 'Set Afire' is an amazingly straight forward catchy rock tune. A foot tapper on a Doom record? That's right, great track, while 'The Answer' and the title track close this rather awesome offering. To summarise - Okay, the Doom elements are certainly there and that may not be to everybody's liking, but if you like your music old Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride or even old Tristania style, then this release is for you. "Kolony Records recently gave me the chance to intervew Kent Helset, the drummer with Norwegian female fronted doom/goth metal band To Cast a Shadow. This is it!

To be honest, I am a little unfamiliar with TO CAST A SHADOW. Can we be introduced to the members of the band?

Allow me to introduce the guy taking care of the six string doomy/bluesy/NWBHM riffing, Marcus Granlien. The steady low-frequency string rumbling sounds are produced by Stian Dalslåen. Voices, be it classical, jazzy, operatic or Norwegian folk, are delivered by Gunnhild Huser (the only music scholar of the bunch). Yours truly, Kent Helset, is responsible for the battering of drumheads and the too frequent breaking of sticks.

Lovely stuff! Can you tell us how you guys and gal all came together?

The guys came together in elementary school through a common passion for Iron Maiden, AC/DC and girls. We've played together, somewhat on and off, since then. To Cast a Shadow came to life in 2005. It was when we got a female singer to join the band that we took writing and playing music to a new level. We met Gunnhild when she was studying music in our home town.

Have any band members been involved or are still involved in other musical projects?

Gunnhild also does vocals for a jazz band called 'Solid Breeze'. Marcus is involved in a band called 'The Black Locust Project'.

Can you tell us about 'IN MEMORY OF' that to be honest is a totally awesome album?

Well thanks. Thrilled you like it! I think it's a quite uncompromising album.
We just wrote stuff that came natural without having thought about genre/style. And out of that came material that might point in a few different directions. You can detect inspiration from f.ex. Norwegian folk, blues, black metal and Terje Rypdal-ish harmonies. Still, a doomy sound permeates most of the material. I think doom has just become part of our musical DNA.

And what studio did you record the record?

We recorded in the studio of 'Hamar Recording'.

The production of the record is quite strong. Who produced the album?

It was mixed and mastered by Richard Löfgren of Leon Music in Karlstad, Sweden. In the recording process we got valuable input from Kristian Sigland (The Crest).

Some bands are quite strong in the studio, others seem to favour the live scenario. What are the differences for you, and which do you prefer?

I think we thrive more from playing live than studio recording, but we really
enjoy both. The actual recording process consists much of waiting around, so it can at times be a draining experience. But trying to perform at your best on tape, and later listening to the finished product is what we really enjoy with studio recorded music. Playing live though, is always fun, and an adrenaline rush that is tough to beat.

I myself can certainly hear old Paradise Lost, old Tristania and My Dying Bride influences. Was this seen as an intentional move?, as to my ears, and with a female vocalist, it is cool!! Indeed, what prompted the band to move forward with a female vocalist?

It was initially not an intentional move. In the beginning we had a lot of material written instrumentally before we even thought that much about vocals. However we soon found that the vocal lines we wrote were'nt really suited for male vocals. We tried to go through the material with a female behind the mic, and it really brought the melodies to life....so we just continued from there.

What basically are your/ the bands current musical influences?

There are so many influences to name, but some of the more mammoth for us are The 3rd and the Mortal, Seigmenn, King's X, Tool , Katatonia, Type O Negative, Alice in Chains and of course you can't escape Black Sabbath and 'the peaceville three'.

The album has just been released. Has there been any media reaction to the record so far?

We've had quite a few reviews so far and it would seem we are definately on to something. A lot of positive feedback!

And do you/the band have any personal fave tracks on the CD?

I think the song I've found myself listening to the most is 'My Misery'.'Tormented' is the song that is the most fun to play live though.

The track 'Set Afire' (which I like by the way) is a straight forward and rather catchy rock tune on an album that is mainly metal and what I would call melodic doom. Any reason for having this track on the album?

It was not written for the purpose of being a typically catchy tune, but I also feel it ended up sounding like you described. It definately did'nt hurt to have
a song with a foot-tapping rythm in between all the gloom. It's also cool to play live.

A question for Gunnhild - being a female fronting a metal band. Although there shouldn't be, is there ever a problem with being taken seriously?

Yes, I guess you could say that. The classic goth metal band line-up has certainly become a cliche. It can be a challange to get a good melody to be recognised amongst the vast number of bands with a similar sound....or what many people perceive to be similar anyway. I think connoisseurs of the genre easily recognise good material though.

And do the guys in the band look after you? :)

Yes, but they keep forgetting to order wine as a backstage beverage. Instead we end up with only beers for the boys ;)

Dang! The UK Music press can be a little cruel to female fronted rock/metal bands. I feel however, that your music could go down really well in the UK. Are there any plans to tour and promote the album here in England?

Yes, we are certainly wanting to come to England and perform live. I know there are some promotional activity from our label towards the UK, so I guess time will tell if we'll get the opportunity!

What/who do members of the band listen to when you are chilling out or relaxing?

I think Isis, A perfect circle, Porcupine Tree and Karnivool certainly have a soothing effect on me. To really chill out, I also listen to a few jazz-fusion
artists such as Manu Katche, Chick Corea and Jan Garbarek.

And do any of you/your band have any hobbies when not making music?

I think we all enjoy gaming, fine wine and travelling and sampling the local beer at the destinations :)

What band/artist would you just love to tour with and hang out with?

A lot of them are dead unfortunately. But hanging out with Lemmy sounds like a hoot. I think we'd benefit the most from going on tour with My Dying Bride or Paradise Lost though, in terms of hitting the target audience.

I agree with that! And finally, regards sites like Ravenheart Music, Femme Metal and Sonic Cathedral who all promote the female fronted genre. Would you rather people discover your band through sites like these, or would you rather people find out about you through your live performances?

I guess a combination would be the ideal, but realistically, the chances of an underground band to go on tour to the extent of building an audience to the point where you could live off the income, is pretty slim. I think these sites are great, and they give underground bands a chance to be heard.

To Cast a Shadow er et rock/metall band fra Hamar, signet på Kolony Records. Musikken er melodisk, melankolsk doom/goth metall med en vakker og trollbindene kvinnevokal på toppen.

Gode krtikker
Bandet har gitt ut et studioalbum med tittelen ”All Alone”. Dette var et selvfinansiert album som ble gitt ut i 2007 på eget selskap. Albumet ble spilt inn hos Hamar Recordings og mikset av den høyt ansette produsenten Rikard Löfgren i Karlstad, Sverige. Bandet samarbeidet også med designeren Matthew Vickerstaff fra Darkwave Art & Design i England (My Dying Bride, The Haunted, Cathedral, Peaceville) som sto for utforming og design av coveret. Her fikk bandet muligheten til å jobbe med kjente og erfarne personer i bransjen samt vise seg fram i form av liveopptreden på flere showcase. I løpet av denne tiden har bandet jobbet sammen med blant andre Kenneth Lewis fra Waterfall,(Ida Maria), Daniel Bergstrand fra Dugout Productions, Sverige (In Flames, Meshuggah, El Caco, Stonegard) og Dan Swanö fra Unisound, Sverige (Opeth, Pain, Katatonia, Theatre of Tragedy).

Albumet ble spilt inn i Hamar Recordings med hjelp av produsenten Kristian Sigland (The Crest,) og ble mikset av Rikard Löfgren fra Leon Music. New cool review of "In Memory Of" by Metalfactory.ch - score is 8/10 this time! :):):loco::loco:

"Gothic Metal ist meine Sache nicht. Zu aufgesetzt die Traurigkeit, zu inszeniert der Weltschmerz, zu teuer das dazu passende Outfit. Erstaunt war ich also, als mir der Scheffe diesen Monat "In Memory Of", zweiter Output der Norweger To Cast A Shadow, zum Kritisieren vorsetzte. Graues Cover, Titel wie "My Misery", "Nightfall" und "When You Leave The Room", auf dem Bandfoto in schwarz gewandete Herren und eine trist dreinblickenden Dame – ich konnte mir ein vorgegriffenes Gähnen nicht verkneifen. Umso erstaunter war ich dann aber, als ich die Scheibe einlegte. Fett groovend startet der Opener "Tormented", und bald schon beginnt die Dame vom Foto, Gunnhild Huser ihr Name, mit ihrem entrückten und ätherisch eindringlichen Gesang. "Das ist nicht wirklich Gothic", denke ich mir, "das ist vielmehr schwarzromantisch gestrichener Doom Metal!" Und mit dem Ende des Songs hat mich die Band in ihren Bann gezogen. Zu Recht, wie die folgenden Nummern beweisen sollten: Die dissonanten Tonfolgen im schleppenden "Morose", der Dreivierteltakt des folkig angehauchten "Nightfall", die vor Herzschmerz kreischenden Gitarren in "Oceans Apart", das ist nicht der Soundtrack für hin und wieder suizidgefährdete Teenies, das ist der Klang ehrlicher Verzweiflung. So bade ich beim aussichtslos dahinwalzenden "When You Leave the Room" genüsslich in Melancholie und lasse mich im abschliessenden Titeltrack in eine nicht sonderlich bunte Klanglandschaft entführen. Zugegeben, bei den beiden elegisch stampfenden "Set Afire" und "The Answer" schimmert der Latex- und Korsett-Einschlag schon hörbarer durch, und die gebrüllten Vocals vom Gastsänger müssten beim ansonsten verzweifelt schönen "My Misery" auch nicht sein. Alles in Allem aber ist "In Memory Of" aber eine grandiose Scheibe voller Hoffnungslosigkeit, die Hoffnung macht, dass noch mehr Gothic-Bands in Zukunft mehr Richtung Doom schielen werden." [Kissi]

"En cette journée glaciale où je dois me rendre à Reims, la campagne et les arbres blanchis par le froid, voilà l’album idéal à mettre dans le lecteur CD de ma voiture.

To Cast A Shadow nous vient de Norvège et “In memory of” est leur 2ème offrande après “All alone” sorti en 2007, entre-temps la chanteuse Camilla Granlien a laissé sa place à Gunnhild Huser. Le groupe définit sa musique comme du Gothic-doom mélodique, et ne cache pas ses influences que sont Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride ou bien The 3rd and The Mortal pour ne citer que ceux-là. Le mois de février est donc propice au « Doom féminin » avec la sortie également du nouvel Ava Inferi.

Cassons le suspens d’entrée, « In memory of » est une réussite de Doom mélancolique, grâce en partie à sa chanteuse, dont la voix se marie à merveille avec la musique.
« Tormented » ouvre les hostilités avec un chant masculin, un riff bien heavy avant de basculer vers la jolie voix de Gunnhild, mélange de finesse et de puissance très bien accompagnée de guitares très Paradise Lost. On reprochera ce break violent dispensable au milieu du morceau.

« Morose » plus posé et complètement Doom est tout simplement le digne successeur des regrettés The 3rd and The Mortal de par sa guitare sèche, très lancinante, hypnotique, Gunnhild nous fait profiter de sa voix lyrique de toute beauté, voilà un bien bel hommage à leurs compatriotes.
Quand on parle d’hypnotisme, « Oceans apart » en est l’exemple même, au rythme très lent, au chant éthéré complété par des grunts et se terminant par un tempo plus rapide. Malheureusement ce morceau est trop court pour du Doom, dommage car il est vraiment accrocheur. Trop court comme les 1min20s du très mélodique « Betula » sur lequel on retrouve Nell (ex Theatre of Tragedy) qui aurait dû bénéficier d’une mise en valeur un peu plus importante tant sa voix est toujours charmante.

Ce qui pourrait être reproché à To Cast A Shadow, est le risque de perdre l’auditeur par une similitude des morceaux, mais ce n’est pas cas tant ces derniers sont mis en valeur par la voix de Gunnhild (le dark et très beau « Nightfall »), le groupe augmentant même la cadence sur l’entraînant et sublime « Set afire » qui rappelle d’ailleurs dans sa dernière partie, les débuts d’Anneke dans The Gathering. « My misery » renoue avec un riff très gothic-metal et bénéficie du mélange des deux voix, grunts et chant. Enfin les deux dernières pistes nous replongent dans un lyrisme très plaisant au rythme lent.

« In memory of » est vraiment un bon album, qui ravira tous les fans de Gothic-metal, de Doom et de Paradise Lost, à partir du moment où la voix de Gunnhild ne vous déplaît pas. Si c’est le cas par contre, vous risquez de trouver une certaine monotonie sur la longueur." [Dimmu 77]

"Zelden ben ik zo op het verkeerde been gezet bij een eerste luisterbeurt. In Memory Of viel op de openingsriff na niet zo geweldig bij mij. Gelukkig kreeg ik deze plaat dusdanig ver voor de releasedatum op mijn deurmat, dat ik hem nog regelmatig heb kunnen draaien. Mijn mening is behoorlijk bijgesteld. We hebben hier namelijk te maken met een, om het maar in een hokje te proppen, gothic dark metal-pareltje.

De heerlijke openingsriff van Tormented zet meteen de sfeer neer en de afwisseling van mannelijke brulvocalen en vrouwelijk 'schoon' werkt geweldig. De reden dat ik niet meteen weggeblazen werd door de rest van de plaat is het feit dat het eerste nummer een uitzondering is. Bijna de hele resterende plaat neemt dame Gunnhild namelijk de leiding. Haar vocalen geven een heerlijk dromerige sfeer. Prachtige en originele zanglijnen blijven dagenlang hangen als het kwartje eenmaal gevallen is. Het sterke drumwerk en de ietwat dissonante riffs zoals die toegepast worden in het eerste nummer keren regelmatig maar op subtiele wijze terug.

De band laat op In Memory Of een sterke, kraakheldere moderne productie horen. Ontoegankelijk is het geenszins, wat het des te vreemder maakt hoe dit werk traag maar gestaag groeit. Achteraf ben ik blij dat ik de tijd heb kunnen nemen om de ware potentie te ontdekken. De kracht van de band zit in de dromerige zanglijnen van Gunnhild en de voor gothic a-typische riffs. Opvallende eigenschappen zijn de zeer sterke incidentele solo's. Nummers als Oceans Apart zijn door de sfeer en het tempo absoluut geschikt voor doomliefhebbers. Norway is not only meaning of black metal during the 90's, in contemporary with the black scene too, a new metal scene was born : the doom metal scene the fans and experts will recognize that cult bands like The 3rd and the Mortal, Paradigma, Theatre of Tragedy and Funeral have opened so many roads and influenced so many bands. One of this are To Cast a Shadow, now out with their new second album "In Memory Of". Let the singer Gunnhild unleash more about the band and the new album.

Hi Gunnhild, how are you? First of all thanks so much for accept this interview!

Greetings Miriam. Thank you for having me!

For our readers can you tell a little bit about the history of the band?

The guys have played together since childhood but To Cast a Shadow came about in 2005. Shortly after a demo was made and in 2007 the band released its first full-length album "All Alone". It received quite a few very positive reviews even with a minimal amount of promotion. We were signed by Kolony Records in 2010 and started recording our upcoming album early the same year.

Where the band name come from?

The band was on the look-out for a name that was like a short sentence or an expression, and that was figurative. I don’t know exactly where the phrase "To Cast a Shadow" was picked up but somehow it stuck in our minds and it sounded right with respects to our music and our sound.

"In Memory Of" is a huge step from debut 2007 "All Alone". What happened to the band – personally and musically during this time?

I was not yet a full-time member of the band and I only appeared on a couple of songs on "All Alone" but I would have to say that I think the personalities in the band are more confident and steady now than on the first album, which is understandable, as everything was new and unchartered the first time around. We are somewhat more experienced and more determined in our actions and opinions now than before.

Your second album "In Memory Of" will be unleashead on the 14th Febraury, 2011. Can you tell us about more the genesis of the album?

There was an eventful two and a half year period for the band between the release of our first album and starting the recording of our second. Events on both a personal level and as a band naturally generated new material, which reflects the rollercoaster of emotions the different band members went through in this period. The recording and mixing sessions of "In Memory Of" were spread out over quite a long period as well, which gave the material time to mature and evolve in between sessions.

Congrats for the deal with Kolony Records, how you come across and when was the first contact with this Italian label?

We were contacted in 2007 by Kolony Records through Myspace, not long after the release of "All Alone". We kept in contact up until a new record was in the making and were pleased to see that the label was doing good and was still interested in signing us.

In the cover album I see those 2 woman... can you explain what represent and mean the cover? By the way, how's the creator?

We let the designer come up with a concept based on the title "In Memory Of". For me, the women represent duality and perhaps a symbol of a second album? The cover also among other things showcases our new logo, which is based on an ancient sundial (given life to by shadows cast). The art is centered around time and mortality and shows, as I see it, a course of events from calm and somber landscapes,to things burning and lastly a crow in an ashy glow. The artwork was created by Matthew Vickerstaff of Darkwaveart in England, who has also done artwork for My Dying Bride among others.

"In Memory Of" it's just a really curious title, does the album is dedicated to someone?

Yes, it’s quite a personal title for all the band members. We all have different people/events we connect to this title and each of us dedicate it to lives or love lost in the turbulent period since the last record.

"Betula" features former Theatre Of Tragedy singer Nell Sigland, how's born this collaboration?

Nell Sigland lives in the same town as us and her husband Kristian is an old acquaintance of Marcus. We asked Nell to try and come up with some vocal lines for this short and emotional little song and she did... brilliantly!

Are scheduled any video clip shooting?

If someone came up with a very good concept for a video and budget permitting, I think we would definitely shoot a video.

I've a little curiosity : where the fans can buy "All Alone" since on your site isn't present an online shop?

It’s available on Amazon and iTunes, as well as a few other websites that we have links to on tocastashadow.com

Norway, despite to be the leader in black metal, from the 90's also in contemporary with the born of black metal, was growing a strong doom metal scene acts like Theatre Of Tragedy, Paradigma, Tristania, Funeral, 3rd and the Mortal.. which of this act like and inspires you? And why?

These bands are exactly the ones we would mention as the some of the very best within the genre. It was in the early years of The Third and the Mortal and Paradigma when this style reached its pinnacle we think. We try to and hope to continue where these bands left off in the mid-nineties and carry the Norwegian torch forward.

What are the next band planes (touring etc..)?

We’re hoping to get out there and play our music wherever and whenever we can. Currently, we’re trying to get in contact with a good booking agency,which is a must for a potential tour.

What are your best favourite metal albums ever?

Oh, where to begin!I actually have trouble naming any specific favorites. I try to always stay open to all kinds of potential new sources of inspiration.

TO CAST A SHADOW: new cooooool review :D of 'In Memory Of' on Belgian webzine ConcreteWeb - rating is 98/100!

"The story of this Trondheim-based Norwegian band apparently starts in 1990, when 3 friends (guitarist/ backing singer Marcus Granlien, bassist Stian Dalsláen, and drummer/ backing singer Kent Helset) first came together in a basement to make the music they live and breathe for. Over he years they experimented with several styles of heavy music, and influence was found from the likes of The 3rd And The Mortal, My Dying Bride, Type O Negative, Satyricon, Anathema, Tool, Paradise Lost and of course Black Sabbath. If anyone sees a thread of Goth and Doom in all of that, he or she would be right!

A couple of years back the trio's musical expression had landed firmly withing the domain of Melodic Doom/ Goth Metal, and the sound was completed with the addition of female singer Camilla Granlien in 2005, a date which marks the birth of TCAS. With Camilla, the band first recorded the 4-track 2005 Demo, and then the self-released 2007 full-length All Alone (with 9 completely new tracks, by the way), which got distribution throughout Europe by Indie Distribution and Plastic Head Distribution. Mixed and mastered by producer Rikard Löfgren and featuring artwork by Matthew Vickerstaff (known from work with My Dying Bride, Cradle Of Filth, and others), the album gained both national and international acclaim, and music off it was played on several radio stations (including UK's BBC Radio). The album also featured guest vocals on two songs by one Gunnhild Huser and when, for some undisclosed reason, Camilla ended her career with TCAS, it's with Huser that the boys continued on!

In 2010 the band signed a deal with Italy's Kolony Records and then went to work on their sophomore full-length album with the help of producer Kristian Sigland (The Crest, Theatre Of Tragedy), whom also collaborated with Rikard Löfgren for the mixing of the album. For the artwork of the new album the band again turned to Matthew Vickerstaff. Guesting in the short (only 80 seconds in length) song “Betula”, you'll find Theatre Of Tragedy lead singer Nell Sigland. As can be expected from a Doom/ Goth band, the female vocals are occasionally balanced with male growls, but there's also screams and, surprisingly, spoken word and normal clean sung passages. Doom being the musical style, you can expect a lot of down-pace riffing supported by pounding bass and moody drum play, but Marcus succeeds in providing more than one song with a truly tasty solo as well. When checking for additional info on the band on the internet, I hadn't heard the album yet, and also I guess the lead singer change situation didn't sink in into my mind but well after (I was not really well, that day), so I forgot to compare vocal stylings between Camilla and Gunnhild when browsing through the band's page on MySpace (www.myspace.com/tocastashadow). The thing is, there's only one track off the new album (album opener “Tormented”), and four off the debut. But if the album is sold through your trusted online sales outlets, those in need for it will find samples of all songs ready at the album's pages of Amazon, iTunes, Napster, or whatever other digital download the band/ label may find interest to work with.

Do you know, there are those people who revel in the unfortunate events that befall other people? There's even those who cannot feel some happiness, unless they're spreading ill will all around 'em? And then, there's people who cannot be happy to a certain degree, unless they're in a state of melancholy of depression? Personally, I've grown into a more positivity-geared outlook on life in the last 10 years, but I never outgrew a feeling of empathy towards my better friends. Sometimes that empathy goes outside the purely friendship bonds, because when Gunnhild starts singing “When You Leave The Room” I cannot help feeling compassionate towards her. I can only hope the lyrics didn't come from stuff that happened in her personal life, and simply grew from that same feeling of empathy I sometimes suffer from! Oh, to end this little lament of mine (well, it IS in sinc with the band's usual topics, isn't it) I'll conclude by adding In Memory Of to my “Best Albums Of 2011”-listings. Also, no matter whether the band gets picked up by a bigger label (and therefore will no longer do their promotion through TSM/ SLW), I intend to purchase any following albums the band may create. "Just as we’re getting used to certain things coming from certain places, it’s Scandinavia who now grace us with another great new female fronted outfit - why should Poland have all the fun.

'To Cast a Shadow' are not actually hot off the press, although, this their second album is just about, has been on store shelves two weeks at the time of writing. A mildly progressive slab of melodic goth noise with all the sought ingredients, songs like ‘Tormented’, ‘Morose’, ‘Oceans Apart’, ‘Betula’, ‘My Misery’ and ‘Set Afire’ are common place ear candy for all fans of lush vocal harmonies as Gunnhild Huser supplies to these beautifully atmospheric tracks.

Above-competitive but also down -to- earth guitar work from Marcus Granlien in place of endless widdle stints allows for plenty of subtle acoustic diversions, the reputation for versatility in this genre not exactly unknown. Captivating and classy, TCAS are another sweet mainland treat to enjoy.

"Well, it may come as no surprise nowadays. Almost all bands coming from the icy north are a guarantee for quality. So also this Norwegian Melodic Goth-Doom Metal attack by To Cast a Shadow. Influenced by My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Type O Negative and Black Sabbath they deliver us with “In Memory Of” their second album. An album where the pure class and craftsmanship drips off like melting icicles of the roof of a dark, grim castle on a sunny cold day. Unfortunately being not familiar with their debut “All Alone” this one is a more then a welcome surprise. Marcus Granlien (guitars), Stian Dalslaen (bass) and Kent Arild Helset (drums) are responsible for a massive doom sound, upgraded with brilliant, heavy riffs and smooth, melodic intermezzo's. The cherry on this black, creamed pie listens to the name of Gunnhild Huser (vocals) who has the perfect voice to colour these beautiful songs. “Tormented” kicks off and brings back some memories of the Gathering's finest age of Mandylion. Accompanied by fierce riffs and fast intermezzo's this one is a fine opener. “Morose” slows down a lot; heavy, doomy and with the, this time, storytelling, enchanting voice of Gunnhild. “No one will ever know what happened that night “, she sings, and man, I really don't want to know what happened under that old three. “Nightfall” and “Oceans Apart” (hello Candlemass, and yes, including up tempo riffwork and twin solo's at the end) continues the slow, heavy doom with majestic melodies and that enchanting voice that really moves. “Betula” comes next; a baladesque track featuring Theatre of Tragedy's singer Nell Sigland on vocals and is way too short finishing already after 1.09 minute. “My Misery” shows the band from a more catchier side and from now on it even gets better. More rock orientated, dark grim male vocals assisting Gunnhild, so; yeah To Cast A Shadow develops their own music from her on. Follower “When You Leave The Room” can easily match the finest of Candlemass and certainly will be a live classic. As you have read so far, this album is filled with pearls, ready to come out of their oysters. But you have pearls and the pearls which lie deeper down in the ocean; the ones that shine just a bit brighter, you only need to dive a bit deeper. These ones are the superb “Set Afire” and the enchanting “The Answer”. Songs that combine the best of this sublime band that brings us TCAS music that moves. I'm in tears of such beauty. Majestic is the only word that comes in mind. “In Memory of” ends this album in dark style. With a top production by Kristian Sigland (The Crest, Theatre of Tragedy), mastering by Rikard Lofgren, high standard lyrics and musical craftsmanship this all provides a high quality album on all fronts. Packed in a luxury digipack with awesome, appropriate artwork by Matthew Vickerstaff from Darkwave, this album certainly belongs in the collection of everyone who has some ear for decent music. "A well coordinated effort by the artist To Cast A Shadow on their most recent album “In Memory Of”. A great overall recording, the mixing and final production are just great. What to expect from this album? Deep growls of male vocals, the enticing clean female vocals, and heavy thunderous backing musical tracks. A very nice touch on this album was how well the reverb was added to the album, especially on the drum kit. The recording quality of each instrument is simply well done, you can hear everything in full clarity with no distortions to the overall sound. The majority of the album follows something to the extent of a Goth Metal album, the best example I can think of are some of the older Theatre Of Tragedy albums. There are just as many smooth sequences as there are active ones. This would be a great album for any fan of the goth genre, but to the heavy and highly distorted metal fan, probably not in your best interest.
Conclusion a really great album for the genre that they are an active part in. A little disappointing that they brought in Nell Sigland for the 1:20 track Betula, I would have liked to see what these two groups could have done with more time. "Dans le vaste paysage du metal, la Norvège n'est pas à plaindre sur la qualité et la quantité des groupes présents en son sol. Connue pour avoir participé à l'avènement de moult genres obscures, elle est également un berceau certain du metal dit « gothique », avec ses penchants doom, puisque abritant The 3rd and the Mortal, Theatre of Tragedy, Tristania et consorts. Une scène qui eut beaucoup d'influence, de nombreuses formations s'inspirant par la suite des pré-cités, mais puisant également dans les racines black ou doom pour donner un résultat convaincant. Ainsi s'imposent aux oreilles de belles surprises, comme Ancestral Legacy. Mais dans les racines plus doom, il faut aller généralement chercher du côté de la Suède, où Draconian est en tête de file par sa musique envoûtante et devenue une référence dans le monde du metal. De jeunes loups pourraient également prendre leur succession, Nox Aurea ayant fait ses preuves depuis bien longtemps.

Mais revenons du côté de la Norvège, cette fois-ci, pour découvrir un groupe qui, pourtant, possède des caractéristiques communes avec les groupes suédois ci-dessus. To Cast A Shadow vient d'Hamar, et est bien décidé à obtenir un peu de reconnaissance. Il faut dire que le quatuor a pas mal d'années derrière lui, existant depuis 1990 si l'on en croit la célèbre encyclopédie metal archives. Pourtant, le premier opus sorti en 2007, All Alone, passa relativement inaperçu et n'ayant pas fait percer le groupe, et cela ne pouvant être porté sur le dos du talent, au vu de la qualité de la première livraison scandinave. Dorénavant signés sur le label Kolony Records et revenant début 2011 avec un In Memory Of à la pochette intrigante, voilà une belle occasion pour les quatre compères de prendre leur revanche sur le manque de promotion du premier opus, et de pouvoir conquérir un nouveau public.

Ce qui frappe pourtant dès les premières écoutes, c'est que la galette offre des sonorités très différentes par rapport à All Alone, sans pour autant radicalement changer la recette. On reste toujours dans une lignée d'un doom tantôt mélancolique, tantôt plus poignant et avec des incursions agressives, voir des accélérations plutôt surprenantes comme sur la fin d'« Oceans Apart', qui se termine sur des notes très extrêmes, de quoi contenter ceux qui trouvent le genre trop mou et monotone. Tous ceux qui s'ennuyaient et trouvaient le premier brûlot trop longuet et linéaire peuvent dors et déjà se rassurer et tenter l'expérience In Memory Of.

Cela dit, en parlant de linéarité, on peut quand même faire un sérieux reproche à To Cast A Shadow, à savoir celui de ne pas savoir faire preuve d'un peu plus de fantaisie et de créativité, les structures étant souvent plutôt semblables et pouvant peut-être lasser sur la durée les auditeurs les moins courageux. Le fait que la voix féminine de Gunnhild Huser soit mise bien souvent au premier plan comparé aux grunts masculins est peut-être un autre élément qui pourra faire décrocher certains, mais cela dit, les norvégiens prennent ici une tournure extrêmement intéressante, beaucoup de groupes de doom à voix féminine ne laissant pas l'espace suffisant à la vocaliste pour exprimer ses lignes angéliques et faire passer un flot d'émotion supplémentaire.

A ce propos, la norvégienne ne possède pas ce que l'on pourrait appeler une voix spécialement claire, malgré son côté éthéré qui ressort bien souvent dans les diverses pièces qui peuplent l'opus. En effet, le timbre est chaud, grave, accompagnant la lourde tristesse et plongeant même dans l'obscurité alors que les voix féminines sont souvent des balances lumière/ombre. Une orientation plus sombre assumée par le quatuor, la voix de Gunnhild ainsi utilisée à bon escient, parfois même officiant toute seule sur un titre, comme l'éponyme « In Memory Of », où elle se pose avec grâce et délicatesse sur une piste aux fonds de guitares très terre à terre et véhiculant une lente dépression, pourtant addictive et concluant l'album sur une note positive dans la tristesse. Cela dit, ce timbre n'accrochera pas forcément toutes les oreilles, et pourra peut-être rebuter ceux qui préfèrent les voix claires et fluettes comme chez Nox Aurea.

Cependant, la ressemblance qui s'amorce entre les pistes est parfois brisée par un petit rafraichissement très souvent bien venu et de qualité. Le premier morceau « Tormented », est puissant, massif et sait se faire imposant, s'éloignant parfois presque du doom pour aller, par les riffs et la voix masculine, rejoindre les rivages black. Cela dit, le refrain est totalement jouissif et la belle norvégienne, de son côté, délivre des vocaux irréprochables et maîtrisés, qui donnent bien envie d'aller voir ce qui se passe par la suite. « Betula » est une belle interlude acoustique où se pose la voix absolument magnifique de Nell Sigland, irrésistible, avec cette pointe d'innocence, cette saveur sucrée dans le timbre, un régal qui permet l'aération. Seulement il aurait été mieux que la pièce dure un peu plus de temps, dommage.

Il est cependant reprochable à To Cast A Shadow de ne pas encore savoir complètement dissimuler ses influences. Même s'il tend à vouloir s'éloigner des clichés habituels du doom à voix féminine, il est bien vite rattrapé par quelques similitudes évidentes avec Draconian par exemple, comme sur « The Answer » qui pourrait être placée avec aisance dans Arcane Rain Fell. « Morose » de son côté fera de forts clins d'oeil à My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, The 3rd and the Mortal ou Anathema première période. Les vieux Theatre of Tragedy ou n'échapperont pas non plus à la règle, certaines incartades ne trompent pas, comme « Nightfall », morceau qui se retrouve définitivement le plus réussi de tout l'opus.

L'album est, en général, très réussi, la qualité ne manque pas dans les pistes et même si elles évoquent par instants tel ou tel combo, elles ne font pas un immonde patchwork d'influences mal dégrossies. En fait, l'une des grandes qualités qui montre la force de composition du groupe norvégien, c'est de ne compter dans le brûlot aucun titre faible, aucune mauvaise piste qui n'est à dénoter, tant l'ensemble est solide. Par contre, des perles, là oui il y en a : « Tormented » est une excellente ouverture, musclée, précise et plutôt à part si comparée avec le reste, « Betula » est un enchantement malgré sa très (trop) courte durée, et l'auditoire se repassera cette petite folie acoustique juste pour le plaisir des cages à miel, « The Answer » est ce que le doom propose de plus séduisant, avec son rythme lent, ses guitares lourdes et son chant à tomber, « Oceans Apart » et son côté doom scène suédoise, créant une belle atmosphère et lâchant les rennes de la puissance sur la fin, pour un final original, « Set Afire » carbure et envoie, pour un résultat que l'on imagine très bien transposé scéniquement, mais surtout « Nightfall », perle de la mouture, un bijou finement taillé où les envolées de Gunnhild sont tout bonnement sublimes, belles à en pleurer. Seules « My Misery » et « When You Leave the Room » seront passées sous silence, bien exécutées, de belles pistes prises à part mais n'atteignant pas la même dose émotionnelle.

D'ailleurs, To Cast A Shadow peut s'appuyer sur une production rondement menée, un mixage habile qui ne va reléguer aucun instrument sur le second plan (même la basse et la batterie sont audibles, c'est fou ça !) et la voix qui par la clarté du son peut véhiculer avec aisance un flot d'émotion très intense qui ne laissera personne indifférent. Les scandinaves possèdent au fond une véritable chance, celle de pouvoir compter sur une production top qualité, qui leur permet d'avoir un son rivalisant avec les maîtres du genre.

Pour rivaliser, il faudra donc avoir une identité un peu plus affirmée et se démarquer à plus de reprises des grands du genre, mais To Cast A Shadow avec ce In Memory Of est en bonne voie d'accéder à cette indépendance vis-à-vis des références stylistiques. Et puis il faut bien avouer que les tentatives d'originalité qui parsèment (cela dit encore trop peu) le brûlot sont tout à fait plaisantes et réussies, et que le groupe livre vraiment un opus de qualité qui témoigne d'une formation ayant toutes les cartes en main pour s'affirmer dans les plus grands groupes de doom. A l'instar des portugais d'Ava Inferi, ces norvégiens nous livrent une offrande mature et savoureuse. Il faut juste l'écouter, laisser le flot nous emporter et rêver …" [Sanguine_Sky]

"Denne skiva kom litt sent i hus, men jeg vedder på at det blant de hundrevis av mailene inneholdende onlinepromoer som ligger og fyller opp innboksen min, befinner seg et stykk av bandets andre og ferske skive, ’In Memory Of’.

Men onlinepromoer blir dessverre ikke prioritert og er vanskelig å holde oversikt over, derfor var det svært avgjørende at bandet shippa inn en kopi, for fysiske skiver er så mye lettere å forholde seg til.

Promoen hadde skriv vedlagt, men etter å ha gjort en del research i forkant og fordi jeg har gjort noen småsaker på gjengen i en tid, visste jeg det meste. For dere som ikke har fulgt med i timen, namedropper jeg referansene; Third And the Mortal, Anathema, Paradise Lost m.fl. Når jeg så bandet live nylig, poengterte jeg til bassist Stian at det var en del Third And the Mortal å spore, og det er aldri feil!

Det er et tungt og bra lydbilde, som loser låtene fint i havn. Det er en tristesse i det hele, men hvor også en gotisk nerven stikker av med en del oppmerksomhet underveis. Metal er basisen, det er gjort plass til inspirasjoner fra noe utenfor metallens rammer også, men generelt vil jeg tro de gjør fra seg best hos de med svart tøy. Men det er om de blir promotert etter de forventede retningslinjene, for de kan nok gjøre det ganske bra også utenfor de piggtrådinngjerede områdene.

De har et trøkk jeg liker, et trøkk jeg velger å sette opp mot to av de forutnevnte artistene; 3rd og Paradise Lost. Produksjonen står ikke tilbake for noen av disse, og det låter av og til som om Tears Laid In Earth har fått seg en boostjobb :).

To Cast A Shadow opererer i et treigt landskap, men uten være doom. De flørter med dommedagsrocken, men de har også et glimt i øyet, et håp i musikken sin. Lys i mørket.

Gunnhild sprenger ingen grenser, men gjør det hun gjør veldig bra. Hun har en mørkere kvinnestemme enn mange andre, og denne gjør at bandet stikker seg litt ut. Hun sliter heller ikke, som en del andre gjør, med tonekontroll. Her er det ikke antydninger til sure innslag så langt jeg kan høre. Hun virker selvsikker, det så jeg også på konserten jeg var innom, selv om jeg gjerne hadde sett at hun fyrte av en rakett til. Ørlite mer kraft hadde gjort seg, men da kan det være bandet hadde mistet denne nedstemte, nydelige gjennomgangstråden. Det smaker ok når gitarist Marcus growler litt, men det er Gunnhild som svinger øksa her i gården.

Dette er for høstkveldene, for de rolige stundene. For meg, som bruker musikk i de fleste av hverdagens krinker og kroker, vil jeg ikke tro det duger i bil eller på joggetur. Men på sofaen hjemme, med fyr i peisen og litt varm kaffe i koppen, er dette farlig deilig.

"Après leur excellent premier opus, ma curiosité fut piquée au vif et j'ai été désireux d'en apprendre plus sur To Cast a Shadow. La chanteuse Gunnhild Huser a donc chaleureusement répondu à mes questions.

Sanguine_Sky : Bonjour Gunnhild et merci de m'accorder cette interview ! Pourrais-tu nous présenter To Cast a Shadow, des débuts à aujourd'hui ?

Gunnhild : Bonjour, et merci de me donner cette opportunité ! To Cast a Shadow prit vie en 2005 grâce aux trois hommes du groupe. Marcus Granlien joue de la guitare, Stian Dalslaen la basse et Kent Helset tambourine à la batterie. Et moi-même, j'ai pu faire une apparition en tant qu'invitée sur le premier album et j'ai été prise au poste de chanteuse après le départ de Camilla Gralien. Je suis donc devenue membre à part entière en 2009.

Sanguine_Sky : To Cast a Shadow n'est pas un nom très commun. Pourquoi ce choix ? Est-ce qu'il représente quelque chose ?

Gunnhild : Le groupe voulait un nom qui soit un peu différent, mais également qui puisse expliquer ou représenter le genre musical. Quelqu'un est venu avec les mots "To Cast a Shadow", et ça collait parfaitement comme nom pour le groupe. C'est assez sombre et mystique, ce qui nous correspond.

Sanguine_Sky : Parlons dès à présent du nouvel album. La direction musicale est plus puissante, sombre, lourde. Est-ce que cette évolution est venue naturellement ?

Gunnhild : Oui, les gars, qui écrivent les titres, voulaient plus de variété et un son un peu plus agressif, donc je pense qu'il s'agit d'une évolution naturelle en terme d'écriture. Il y a eu bien plus de temps passé sur les pistes avant l'enregistrement, dans le but d'experimenter et d'essayer de nouvelles choses, différentes, et de travailler sur les arrangements.

Sanguine_Sky : Comment s'est déroulé l'enregistrement de l'album ?

Gunnhild : Le procéssus d'enregistrement a été réparti sur une période de 6-7 mois. On a passé un week-end en studio à enregistrer la batterie, et on a continué avec la basse, la guitare et les lignes de chant à différents moment durant l'été, dans un autre endroit. Globalement, le processus complet fut une bonne expérience, et on est plutôt satisfait du résultat.

Sanguine_Sky : C'est la première fois que tu enregistres en tant que chanteuse principale avec To Cast a Shadow. Comment ça a été ? Pourrais-tu nous raconter quelques souvenirs de ton passage en studio ?

Gunnhild : Tout à fait, c'est mon tout premier album en tant que chanteuse de To Cast a Shadow, et l'expérience fut excellente. Pour moi, l'enregistrement fut profitable, aussi bien qu'un peu difficile. J'ai mon propre style vocal, qui est un peu "jazzy", et c'était assez inhabituel pour les mecs, mais j'ai tout aussi dû varier mes lignes de chant en utilisant des techniques différentes comme le classique, l'opéra ou le rock. Être capable de se déployer de la sorte est bien pour un artiste. Tout compte fait, les souvenirs du studio sont bons et ça a été beaucoup d'amusement, malgré que le studio avait une odeur de porcherie (ce qui nous a fait travailler assez efficacement) et les murs de son (des matelas) tombaient tout le temps (rires) !

Sanguine_Sky : As-tu un titre préféré sur l'album ?

Gunnhild : Je dirais "Morose", mais lorsqu'il faut jouer en live, j'apprécie beaucoup "The Answer" pour son énergie.

Sanguine_Sky : Vous êtes signés sur Kolony Records. Comment s'est passé le contact avec eux ?

Gunnhild : Nous sommes entrés en contact par le biais de Myspace peu après la sortie du premier opus All Alone, et restés en contact même pendant l'enregistrement et le mixage d'In Memory Of.

Sanguine_Sky : Quels échos avez vous reçus sur In Memory Of ?

Gunnhild : En général très bon. Nous avons eu beaucoup de gens, de magazines ou de webzines qui ont montrés de l'intérêt et nous ont accordés des chroniques et des interviews. Beaucoup d'échos positif, c'est génial ! Nous en sommes très reconnaissants, et très heureux.

Sanguine_Sky : Doit-on voir une symbolique dans le nom de l'album et dans sa pochette ?

Gunnhild : Le nom de l'album, d'une manière ou d'une autre, reflète quelque peu les thèmes traités dans nos paroles. L'illustration de la pochette est basée sur la tristesse, la perte et la beauté de la mélancholie, du moins c'est comme ça que je le vois. Le digipack montre également des imagines qui reflètent des passages de morceaux.

Sanguine_Sky : Maintenant que l'album est sorti, quels sont les projets de To Cast a Shadow ?

Gunnhild : Nous espérons que beaucoup de gens, le plus possible, puisse découvrir notre musique et on espère pouvoir faire quelques performances scéniques également.

Sanguine_Sky : Quelle est ton opinion à propos de la scène metal actuelle en Norvège ?

Gunnhild : J'ai pas vraiment d'opinion spécifique à propos de la scène metal en Norvège. J'apprécie quelques petites choses dans différents groupes, musiciens ou style. Il y a bien sûr quelques bons concerts dans le coin, heureusement.

Sanguine_Sky : Nous avons l'occasion d'entendre la chanteuse Nell Sigland (ex-Theatre of Tragedy) sur la piste "Betula". Comment êtes-vous entrés en contact avec elle ?

Gunnhild : Elle est, en réalité, de la même ville que les mecs, et Marcus la connait depuis quelques temps. Nous lui avons demandé si elle voulait faire une apparition en tant qu'invitée sur ce titre, et elle a été plus qu'heureuse de le faire.

Sanguine_Sky : Quels sont tes groupes favoris ? Pourrais-tu nous recommander quelques groupes/albums que tu apprécies ?

Gunnhild : Oh, ça c'est une question vraiment difficile, je ne sais pas où commencer ! En vérité, je n'arrive pas à nommer d'artistes favoris, spécifiques. Je suis très ouverte d'esprit quand on parle de musique et je reste toujours ouverte à toutes nouvelles sources potentielles d'inspiration.

Sanguine_Sky : Si tu pouvais partir en tournée avec le groupe de ton choix, lequel serait-ce et pourquoi ?

Gunnhild : Ce serait un voyage autour du monde dans l'Ed Force One d'Iron Maiden. Dois-je en dire plus...

Sanguine_Sky : Quel est ton parcours musical et ton expérience ?

Gunnhild : Je suis scolarisée dans le classique comme dans le jazz, le rock et la pop et j'ai fait tous types de chants. J'ai même été dans un opéra, ce qui était un peu intimidant, mais également très amusant (je devais faire un ballet pour cette partie...tu aurais dû me voir (rires)). En plus de To Cast a Shadow, je suis chanteuse dans un groupe de jazz.
