A question for yis.

What should I do with talkmovies.net? Options are:

1. Keep it going exactly the same as it is.

2. Keep it going exactly the same as it is, except remove the "Australia and New Zealand" reference?

3. Rename it and make it into a movie site for metal fans?

4. Rename it and make it into a pop culture site for metal fans?

I'm leaning towards the latter. Problem is that metal fans are annoying at the best of times when arguing about popular culture, so they'd probably be even more annoying if they had their own site to talk about it.

Suggestions, please.

I really like the idea of having it a movies and/or pop culture site for metal/rock music fans, but the problem is I think it is a pretty specific audience, and you may again find trouble trying to draw members. Whatever you do with it, I don't think leaving it the way it is should be an option. I dig the site, but it needs members, and the way it is hasn't worked, so you need something fresh, to kind of start over and try again, with a new image and perhaps even a new name. That way when you promote it, it will seem like something new, because if people see you pushing 'Talkmovies.net', they might think "oh yeah I checked that out a while back, but it was no good" or something.

:)

Thing is that I don't particularly want it to be the biggest site in the world or anything, I just want a place for a bunch of guys and gals to talk about stuff. In that sense I don't mind if the audience is too specific, because that's sort of what I'm after. That way one can use the  smiley without having people wondering what the hell is going on. :)

I'm keeping the talkmovies.net domain cos it's too cool to just ditch. I'll use it for something else, probably related to movies or, if I'm feeling zany, a gardening website.

Gardening AND INTERIOR DESIGN! FOR METALHEADS! We can all share tips on how to make better shelves out of bricks and lumber we stole from the local construction! And chairs out of beer cans.

Make it a full blown movies site. Allow reviews of new movies to be uploaded by the general viewing public. Have a star rating for each person who reviews.

Sections on cult and classic films...all sorts.

There's huge possibilities spiffo.

Bring it back but expand it so it includes all sorts of pop culture topics that movie fans might also like such as comics, cult TV series, animation, genre-based fiction and so on. The main focus should still be films and DVDs, but you can redesign it so it has lots of little sub-forums like UM does. The next stage is to invite and encourage more people to contribute, then maybe even advertise the site on other movie pages or in magazines. Reach a bigger audience and promote yourself, Spiffo. If you build the site and they know it's there, they will post :).

The reason I'm reluctant to just make it into a full-blown movie site with reivews and stuff is because this has been done countless times before. Why should I bother doing that? I want to do something NEW. And this isn't about reaching a huge audience, because I'm not interested in that. I want something neat and fun and different, but I'm not wanting to take over the world or make money or anything from it.

Yeah in that respect I really like the idea of having it a specific target audience, and I know you don't want to attract an army of members, but you still need to attract some members, and if it is that specific and you don't promote it properly it just won't work IMO.

Yes, I understand that I need to attract some members. That's the whole point of figuring out what I want to do with it first - then I can decide on how to go for the target demographic.
