Vocalist / guitarist Todd Kerns (Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators, Heroes And Monsters, Michael Monroe, Toque, The Age Of Electric) has revealed details of his upcoming Unplugged Italian Tour, scheduled for May 2025.
“With a loose grasp on Italian but a whole buncha love, I’m headed back to Italy, only this time all by my lonesome,” begins Todd, speaking exclusively to BraveWords scribe Aaron Small.
“I was lucky enough during Covid to do a whole lot of recording with friends. We couldn’t tour, so what else were we gonna do? One of those friends was Will Hunt from Evanescence. He and his friend, Stef Burns (Sheila E, Huey Lewis And The News, Y&T) had been playing with Italian legend Vasco Rossi for years, and they had been writing songs together, looking for a voice and a bass player for their project. Or a bass player with a voice. That’s where I came in. We knocked ideas around and it became Heroes And Monsters. We found ourselves touring Italy many, many times. I never expected that at all.”
“Having been to Italy many many times with Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators over the past 15 years I had already fallen in love with the people, the food, the culture,” continues Todd. “On my last visit I was asked if I would ever consider doing my solo show in Italy. That’s a big part of what I do when I can find the time.”
“Playing by myself with an acoustic guitar can be some of the most rewarding performing I do. The intimacy, the nakedness is not for the faint of heart. You gotta stay sharp. There’s no loud drums and guitars to hide behind. It’s just you and THEM – the audience. It’s the most direct form of music there is. The only thing I can imagine more naked is stand up comedy. Like an acoustic show without a guitar.”
“The challenge here will be my complete lack of Italian. I can count to ten and beyond, plus broken phrases here and there, but overall I’m pretty limited. When I’m playing with Stef Burns, he speaks fluent Italian. So, while I get to shout ‘Ciao Tutti’ or ‘Grazie, Roma’ he can expound upon larger themes.”
“Either way I’m super excited for the opportunity. For a guy from small town Saskatchewan I never thought I’d get to LA or New York, let alone Milan, Rome, Pisa etc.”
“Life is a funny thing. Opportunity knocks and it’s up to you to answer the door. Or you can be like me and just take the hinges right off. My door is always open.”
“One day I’ll be 85 with a tiny, girly dog on my lap at an outside patio coffee joint telling stories of all the nonsense I’ve done. The patrons won’t believe a word of it. ‘Crazy old man Kerns and his stories’ they’ll say. That’s fine. In the meantime, I’m stockpiling stories.”
“Hope to see you out there. Come say HI!
Ciao, Italia”
