Ok, this morning I did a little shootout. Same amp, different settings and mics position.
I started with an eq, and every take I add something different. I'm very happy with the tone but I'm curious about which one you prefer.
I used the Devin Townsend Marcus DI's.

I like the third one better.I find the two first a bit more bright for my likings, and the last more muddy.I think the 3rd one is spot on IMO.

Oh guys, I should have written that I used an amp sim in the thread's title...something like "New comparison with 8505 and SoloC" :D
Probably now I should have 2 pages full of comments :p

MPres gets my vote, has the best balance of body and cut IMO! MMids and Fcenter are my second favorite (can't really pick which I like more without them being in context), and RMP1 is last, feels a bit tubby and muffled. As to the amp, well, since I know you own a Savage 60, that'd be my first guess, but second would be a 5150 (cuz you've said you have access to one ;))

Thanks for the reply. :)
MPres and MMids are my favourites too. I think this is definitelly the best tone I get with my Savage. It's a very dry amp so I had to push the gain pretty hard to get the body I like. In the past I always used less gain but I've seen a fredman's Savage photo and I try his settings on mine, with some tweaks...holy shit what a difference :D
