LOTS of mic impulses here recorded in an anechoic chamber. Mostly of older mics that you don't see used anymore. Seems real interesting to me! I've heard that there may be some Nebula sampling coming from these mics as well :D
 
I use Nebula mic programs, but the same principle would apply with the IR's. Just put it first in the chain.

Obviously you can get creative with placement if you want, but in terms of trying to stay as close to authentic as possible, the mic would be first in the signal chain, so that's the best spot for it IMO. Then simply follow it up with whatever you would normally put (EQ, Comp, etc)
