Tony Iommi

Your thoughts on Sabbath era from Eternal Idol through Forbidden and your thoughts of The Iommi/Hughes albums and let's not forget Tony's solos record? I have been listening to the Tony Martin era and Iommi solo stuff a lot lately... Headless Cross and Cross Purposes are fantastic albums!

Never heard any of Iommi's solo material but I do like Headless Cross a lot. Some of the post-Dio era Sabbath material catches a lot more flak than it really deserves.

Only ever really liked Ozzy era sabbath, never liked Dio era at all. Headless cross is the best post ozzy Sabbath Cd imo.

Agreed. Dio Sab does nothing for me.

But he is a superior frontman though. Ozzy is as inept as you can get. He's always just kinda jumped around some and sang into the mike.

Eternal Idol, Tyr, Headless Cross and Cross Purposes are all very good records if you ask me. Very underrated. A lot of people just write off post-Dio Sabbath, with the exception of Dehumanizer (which is an awesome album). Forbidden on the other hand, I'm not so fond of. It's got it's good points but I find it to be very uneven.

The Dio era just doesn't click for me. The earlier songs seem better as well, but that had nothing to do with Ozzy.

Totally, Dio was/is a better singer but didnt suit sabbath in the same way Ozzy did. Some of the most memorable moments in Ozzy era Sabbath and even his solo career are moments of singing ie 'You bastards' in sabbath bloody sabbath.

Tyr and Headless Cross are both excellent albums, but are rightfully overshadowed by both the dio era and the ozzy era which are among the finest metal ever recored.

^ Pretty much what Vilden said, tbh. Though as a counterbalance to the earlier clueless posts, I would add that of late my favourite Sabbath album has been Heaven and Hell by a quite massive margin.

Why ? Epic songwriting, musical ability and vocal ultra-power.

I haven't heard Seventh Star, but I've heard the Martin-era from Headless Cross through to Cross Purposes (and a couple tracks from Forbidden). I can't say I'm a big fan of it. Cross Purposes, and the Forbidden songs I've heard, were okay, but Headless Cross and TYR are downright cringeworthy for me to listen to. Sabbath trying to sound far too "epic", for it's own good, IMO.

But then again, my opinion might not be the same as most; I though Heaven and Hell was a shit CD, apart from Neon Knights and Die Young (a near perfect song in it's own right). I thought Dehumanizer was much better.

I much prefer Ozzy and Ian Gillan Sabbath, as well as Dehumanizer-era Dio Sabbath. I think my three favorite Sabbath albums have to be Sabotage, Born Again, and Dehumanizer.

One could argue the same thing about yourself, for assuming your opinion is the only correct one around here.

Well, if nothing else, you've become a legend in my eyes. I never thought I'd see the day where someone with working ears would proclaim Dehumanizer to be superior to the frankly stunning Heaven and Hell.
