Alright, I know a lot of the people on this board are under 20 years old, but for us geezers (I'm 36), or you kids that appreciate classic metal-What are your favorite classic metal cds? By classic I mean at least 20 years old. What favorite metal discs from your youth, (or your father's collection:) ) have aged well over the years, and you still find yourself going back to and enjoying?
Mine are-
Iron Maiden -Killers
Judas Priest-Unleashed in the East
UFO-Force It
Michael Schenker-MSG
Scorpions-Taken By Force
Black Sabbath-Heaven and Hell
Rush-Moving Pictures
Rainbow-Down to Earth
Scorpions-Virgin Killer
Rush-Permanent Waves

Hey dolphz, did you meet Ozzy at Rolling Stones last saturday? This smilie ---> best describes how i acted in front of him.

Rush-Moving Pictures
Rush-Permanent Waves

Oh yes, these albums are fantastic and my favourites among Rush albums. Yet I beg to differ as to whether they are actually metal - not everything with electric guitars is metal, as you surely know. Well, that is unnecessary nitpicking, but it caught my attention.

These over 20 years old favourites are ones I cling to with passion, yet I am not limiting the list to just metal albums. (Also, one album per each band so as to not have a few fill all positions.)

1 - Black Sabbath: The Ozzy albums, but first and foremost "Sabotage"
2 - King Crimson: Red
3 - Deep Purple: Machine Head
4 - Mahavishnu Orchestra: Birds of Fire
5 - Rush: Moving Pictures
6 - Motörhead: Overkill
7 - Genesis: Selling England by the Pound
8 - Hawkwind: Levitation
9 - Camel: Nude (definitely not the best one, but it is the only one I have as of now)
10 - Led Zeppelin: IV

And also loads of totally un-metal artists like Amon Düül, Billie Holiday, Tangerine Dream, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen and so forth.

These albums were pretty metal for that period in time. I forgot about Led Zeppelin:eek: -Physical Graffitti would be my choice. Great pick with King Crimson' Red also! Also Deep Purple-Made in Japan is a necessary addition.

metallica - ride the lightning
slayer - south of heaven
mercyful fate - melissa
destruction - mad butcher
at the gates - the red in the sky is ours
iron maiden - seventh son....
morbid angel - blessed are the sick
dream theater - images and words
yngwie malmsteen - rising force
iron maiden - number of the beast

(maiden twice because .... comon now its maiden)
(i put at the gates / morbid angel / dream theater even though they arent REALLY classic, but classic in their own genres)

Deep Purple-Machine Head

Of all the "classic" albums, I'd say this one is the best. I think it is way better than anything Zeppelin, Sabbath, The Doors, or anybody ever did. It is just such a killer album. And "Smoke on the Water", that is like the ultimate rock song. Damn that cd is awesome.

n/p: Incubus-Morning View

Anything by Maiden, really. Um, Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime also deserves a mention I think. IMO it would make a great movie.

  • Iron Maiden - Powerslave
  • Slayer - Show No Mercy
  • Queesryche - Empire OR Operation:Mindcrime (both are great)
  • Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengence
  • Black Sabbath - Mob Rules
  • Megadeth - Peace Sells...But Whos Buying?
  • Metallica - Ride The Lightning (all first 4 tallica albums are great)
  • Dio - Holy Diver OR Dream Evil
  • AC/DC - Highway To Hell
  • BLAZE - SILICON MESSIAH!!! (i know its not "classic" so :p)

thats my top 10, sorry for being a bit indecicive with a couple of em. im off to work now :(
