Top 10 lists off the top of your heads. No Metallica allowed. Every other Thrash act is invited, from any era, including anything that might have might have once been considered 'Speed Metal' (a la Annihilator or Megadeth).

Start ->

Yeah, I'm thinking on this one too, although I have a few immediate contenders.

EDIT: Rank in order! Fave 10 albums makes it too easy.

The ship is sinking and you can only grab 10 thrash albums. In which order do you grab them?

Top of my head, no order, plenty of forgotten ones I'm sure:

Sacred Reich - American Way
Sepultura - Arise
S.O.D. - Speak English or Die
Slayer - Divine Intervention
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes
Megadeth - Rust in Peace

Uhhhhh... a few more albums by the above mentioned acts... this is though without Metallica. :Spin:

1. MetallicA (fuck you i'll have 'em all a number one)
2. Darkness Descends The Legacy Reign in Blood Bonded by Blood In the Sign of Evil Hell Awaits Evil Never Dies <--- this is a great album and deserves my #2 spot even though the album title is really long

Ok, here's my first crack at it:

10. Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
09. Anthrax - Spreading The Disease
08. Testament - The New Order
07. Metal Church - The Dark
06. Slayer - South Of Heaven
05. Anthrax - State Of Euphoria
04. Testament - The Legacy
03. Sepultura - Beneath The Remains
02. Megadeth - Rust In Peace
01. Anthrax - Among The Living

06. Slayer - South Of Heaven
It's so funny how this album is hailed by the 'old school' crowd today, especially when at the time of its release, it was generally hated. I think I probably like Reign in Blood more, but SoH would be a close second.

South of Heaven rules. But why wouldn't it, because all Slayer rules up until Diabolus in Musica, and even that isn't terrible, it's just not Slayer.

My top 10 of favourite thrash metal albums:
1.Voivod - Dimension Hatross
2.Coroner - Grin
3.Mekong Delta - Visions Fugitive
4.Watchtower - Energetic Disassembly
5.Agent Steel - Sceptics Apocalypse
6.Sabbat - Dreamweaver (Reflections Of Our Yesterdays)
7.Toxik - Think This
8.Forbidden - Twisted Into Form
9.Grip Inc. - Nemesis
10.Slayer - Reign In Blood

You're trying to make my brain explode.... this list is a bitch!

1. HELSTAR- Nosferatu
2. DARK ANGEL- Time Does Not Heal
3. FLOTSAM AND JETSAM- Doomsday For The Deceiver
4. SABBAT- Dreamweaver
5. VIO-LENCE- Oppressing The Masses
6. FORBIDDEN- Twisted Into Form
7. OVERKILL- The Years Of Decay
8. EXODUS- Pleasures Of The Flesh
9. VIO-LENCE- Eternal Nightmare
10. CORONER- No More Color

And fuck all of ya, I'd cram POWERMAD- Absolute Power down my pants or something.....
:D

Interesting pattern there, with those thrash acts bordering traditional heavy metal. In fact, were Helstar ever really thrash per se?

Considering I first fell in love with Suicidal Tendencies when I was 4 I really should own more than one of their CDs.

In personal taste:
1) Slayer Reign in Blood
2) Sepultura Arise
3) Slayer South of Heaven
4) Megadeth Peace Sells
5) Dark Angel Darkness Descends
6) Metallica Master of the Puppets
7) Sepultura Beneath the Remains
8) Kreator Extreme Aggression
9) Sodom Agent Orange
10) Tie cuz I cant decide and think all three are equally important on the development of thrash: Metallica ...and Justice, Megadeth Rust in Peace, or Testament Practice What You Preach.

this is a fucking tough one.

1. slayer - reign in blood
2. exodus - bonded by blood
3. sepultura - beneath the remains
4. kreator - pleasure to kill
5. destruction - eternal devastation/infernal overkill
6. slayer - hell awaits
7. megadeth - countdown to extinction
8. anthrax - among the living
9. flotsam and jetsam - doomsday for the deceiver
10. exodus - tempo of the damned

to me really EXODUS is the textbook definition of thrash metal ... they play it by the book these boys, nobody can come close.

i'm not the biggest or most knowledgeable thrash fan, so this is the best i could come up with (if i cant include metallica)

1. Sepultura - Arise
2. Coroner - Mental Vortex
3. Megadeth - Rust In Peace
4. Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss
5. Slayer - Reign In Blood
6. Testament - Low

thats not to say those are the only thrash albums i like (obviously not), but a lot of my favorite thrash albums are more like "thrashy death metal", and these that i listed are the only ones that stand out to me enough to be on a "top 10 list".
