Tornado Crisis 2011

Whatevery construction you may have, if nature wants to destroy it, it will. Forces of nature are so strong that it's impossible to build proper houses that are resistant to EVERYTHING.

This is very sad, glad you are well, but it's seriously unbelievable that people survived the wrackage seen on your pictures.

Of course nature takes everything away if she wants to, but at least with bricks you won't see that huge mess. maybe something could have been saved.

True. In the future it will be more likely to have buildings that are "nature-proof". They allready have skyscrapers which are earthquake proof. They have these huge springs as a foundation. You see that every country has it's battle against something in nature. One more frightning then the other.

That would be great, but it will never happen (here in the U.S.)...at least not on a large scale. It's not cost effective to build this. The home builders are only interested in getting the homes up as cheaply and quickly as possible. And the "craftsmanship" that goes into them today is utterly ridiculous. Only on very expensive, custom homes will you possibly see better construction. (Speaking only of the homes built here).

Many of you don't seem to understand...this isn't how "poor people's" house are made...this is how houses are made here...period. Like Sloan said: concrete foundation, 2x4 studs, plywood, sheetrock walls. Not just small, little houses...but even your huge, expensive houses. And I will never understand this. Especially since I live on the gulf coast (hurricane area).

I used to hang vinyl siding for a pretty big building company around here. Like, $500,000 homes....BIG.......mostly city folk from NY moving here to PA because, exactly like said, it's cheaper. They can build these homes for a lot less than they are selling them for. The world is populating so damn fast.....and it does seem like natural disasters/earthquakes/tornadoes are hitting WAYYYY more the past 5 years than ever before. Kind of scary, really.

houses must built with bricks not plywood
I'm sorry to all the people having their houses destroyed but that's what happens if you build them like that.

Psshh, most US houses would be better off with plywood than their active ingredient, drywall - any building material I can put a knee through without injury is not what I'd call durable!
