"Se non conoscevate ancora i Tragodia, cosa gravissima, ora che hanno pubblicato questo “Mythmaker” non avete più scuse! Personalmente ho imparato ad amare la band bresciana con il precedente “Theomachy”, uscito l’anno scorso per la My Graveyard Productions, e questo nuovo “Mythmaker” spinge questi ragazzi verso un ulteriore livello di professionalità, competenza e capacità di scrivere ottima musica. “A Cry among the Stars” mette assieme un gothic con qualche spunto elettronico a un groove metal moderno e dinamico; molto belle le linee vocali, cantate con grande maestria da Luca Meloni. Tostissima “The Oracle and the Muse”, nella quale colgo addirittura suggestioni space, ma che si basa essenzialmente su un ritornello stellare, che fulmina di colpo l’ascoltatore dopo una strofa relativamente ‘tranquilla’. “Wisdom in the Meadows of Sorrow” lascia maggiore spazio alle chitarre, che nei brani precedenti erano sempre dietro alle tastiere; il mid-tempo “Tidal Waves of Greatness” ha un andamento solenne, quasi epico, ed è a mio giudizio il miglior brano del lotto grazie al suo approccio drammatico e solenne. Lunga e fluviale “The Stone and the Idol”, mentre si preme sull’acceleratore dell’estremo in “Born under Niobe”. La titletrack trasuda groove e potenza prima dello strumentale conclusivo “The weeping Rock of Sephirus”, che stempera per gradi la tensione generata dal disco. Un prodotto made in Italy che incrocia trasversalmente più generi e può quindi entusiasmare un pubblico potenzialmente vastissimo; parole di lode anche per la superba confezione digipack e per i testi, tutti del chitarrista Francesco Lupi, ricchi di riferimenti enigmatici e di forza quasi ermetica (su tutti si veda quello della titletrack). "A needed counterpoint to both the extremely brutal releases on end and the slew of overly soft mallcore on the other, Tragodia exists in a middle realm where melody is king but heaviness still reigns beside it as queen. “Mythmaker,” the band’s third album overall and coming only a year after previous full-length “Theomachy,” is a well-rounded release with big appeal to anyone who simply likes metal in general and isn’t devoted exclusively to the most aggressive sub-genres.

The ten tracks composing “Mythmaker” tend to straddle that line between power and prog metal, but with a bit of a Gothic twist, as the music is more dark and brooding than you’d usually get from the combination of power metal and progressive music. There are quite a few moments that will definitely bring Iced Earth to mind, but don’t be surprised if a dash of thrash is found as well, along with some soulful acoustic strumming. It’s a minor occurrence, but there are also some interesting ‘80s movie soundtrack-style sounds in the background of a few songs, most notably “Born Under Niobe.”

“The Oracle and the Muse” offers up an example of technical guitar work and the intertwining of guitars and keyboards that both prog and power love to utilize. The vocals also dip a bit lower and more guttural throughout the track, although they don’t actually cross into growling. “Wisdom in the Meadow of Sorrows” is the track that easily showcases the band’s wide vocal range, bringing out high pitched power falsettos, smooth clean singing, and lower shouts.

The entirety of “Mythmaker” has a strong focus on the melodic aspects, but not at the expense of the heaviness. Tragodia has definitely found a winning formula in how to temper the different metallic aspects into a cohesive whole that never goes too far off the rails in either direction.

Highs: Power, prog, and melodic metal all come together in a cohesive way.

Lows: The album isn't a trailblazing new look at metal, and while the vocals have a wide range, the guitars tend to sound very similar throughout the disc.

Bottom line: Melody and heaviness are married together on Tragodia's third full-length "Mythmaker."" [xFiruath]

"Gothic Metal soll es also sein, was TRAGODIA und bieten. Zumindest in den Metal-Archives werden sie in diese Genreschublade gesteckt. Klar, der Bandname widerspricht dieser These erst einmal nicht, und für eine italienische Combo verbreiten sie auch überdurchschnittlich viel Wehmut. Aber nur, weil sie nicht wie so viele ihrer Landsleute mit dem Schwert in der Hand rittlings auf einem Drachen gen Sonnenuntergang fliegen, muss man sie doch noch lange nicht in die Depri-Ecke stecken, oder?

Dafür agieren TRAGODIA auf ihrem neuen Album „Mythmaker“ nämlich deutlich zu vielschichtig, so dass das Album trotz des Hangs der Italiener zu schwermütigen Melodiebögen verdammt viel Spaß macht. Das liegt unter anderem daran, dass sich das Quintett lieber beim Heavy und auch beim Power Metal bedient, statt sich im eigenen Genre-Leid zu suhlen. Stellenweise bewegt sich die Band sogar in Richtung Göteborg („The Oracle And The Muse“, „Wisdom In The Meadows Of Sorrow&#8220, dann wird es wiederum doomig-balladesk („Tidal Waves Of Greatness&#8220, so dass es an Abwechslung garantiert nicht mangelt.

Vor allem aber macht „Mythmaker“ Spaß, weil TRAGODIA ein Händchen für gut ins Ohr gehende Melodien und Refrains haben. Fast jeder der Songs ist mit einem Chorus mit größerem Hitpotential gesegnet, so dass man sich als Hörer nur zu gerne als Backgroundsänger für Luca Meloni versucht, der auf angenehme Weise den Spagat zwischen Ausdrucksstärke und dezentem Pathos meistert. In Kombination mit den stets melodischen Gitarrenleads ergibt das eine Hitdichte, von der andere Bands dieser Größenordnung nur träumen können – als Vorgeschmack sei euch das hymnische “A Temple In Time“ an die Hand gegeben.

Wem der Sinn nach melodischem Metal steht, der ist gut beraten, sich mal das ganze Album zu Gemüte zu führen. Mit „Mythmaker“ ist TRAGODIA unter dem Strich nämlich eine herbstliche Überraschung gelungen, die auch zu anderen Jahreszeiten sehr gut funktionieren dürfte. So ganz viel Gothic steckt hier nämlich gar nicht drin, dafür aber eine stattliche Anzahl an abwechslungsreichen, Spaß machenden Songs!" [Tim Serwatka]

"“Mythmaker”, terza fatica dei bresciani Tragodia, rappresenta una piacevole sorpresa novembrina. Perfettamente in mood con il clima di questo periodo, ci troviamo ad ascoltare un disco malinconico, dalle atmosfere piovose e sofferte, costruite sulla base di gothic metal con alcuni innesti prog e symphonic, ma che riesce – quando serve – a picchiare duro, come nell’opener “A Cry Among The Stars”. La band ha dalla sua una tecnica non indifferente e buone capacità arrangiative e di songwriting, ma – cosa più importante – cerca di rendere dinamico l’incedere del disco, come all’arrivo di “Wisdom In The Meadows Of Sorrow” che, dopo due pezzi tradizionalmente goth, unisce a questo elemento una melodia orecchiabile e tirata, unita ad un tiro che ricorda i primi Therion. Forse, in alcuni passaggi, i Tragodia cedono un po’ troppo agli schemi del genere o cercano soluzioni un po’ troppo scontate e commerciali. In effetti, la parte centrale del disco è quella meno riuscita, nonostante alcune buone orchestrazioni, in cui si ha l’impressione che la band abbia allungato un po’ il brodo, con dei pezzi che hanno tutto il sapore dei filler. Si ritorna su uno standard elevato con “Born Under Niobe”, il cui cantato iniziale ricorda ancora una volta il Christofer Johnsson di “Lepaca Kliffoth” o “Theli”, così come la successiva title-track che ha un inizio quasi thrash con un mid-tempo cadenzato e pesante; è qua che la voce risulta un po’ fuori contesto. Ecco, volendo trovare un difetto a questo disco, ci verrebbe da dire che il timbro vocale è molto adatto al gothic, ma quando la band si allontana dai lidi di questo genere, le linee di voce appaiono un po’ fuori contesto. Proprio alcuni passaggi di “Mythmaker” chiamano fortemente un growl o, comunque, un approccio vocale più aggressivo. Nel complesso, però, questo terzo full dei Tragodia è un lavoro ben sopra la media e, sopratutto, originale; non è un disco da headbanging, ma un lavoro raffinato e d’atmosfera che, come le giornate di pioggia, trasmette il suo fascino lentamente e solo a chi lo sa capire. Buona personalità unita ad uno stile, a suo modo, affascinante. Manca forse un po’ di cattiveria, ma la proposta musicale è di tutto rispetto ed i numeri per potersi proporre ad un livello discograficamente più importante ci sono tutti." [Lorenzo Ottolenghi]

"A solo un anno di distanza dal precedente album intitolato “Theomachy”, i nostrani Tragodia tornano orgogliosamente sulle scene, rilasciando per Kolony Records il terzo album intitolato “Mythmaker”.
Affidatisi alle cure del sapiente ingegnere del suono UE Nastasi (noto per aver lavorato con realtà importanti come Lamb Of God, Gojira e Paradise Lost), i nostri segnano il proprio ritorno nello sconfinato universo musicale con un’opera molto ben realizzata, che non lascerà interdetti ne i sostenitori storici del combo lombardo, ne tanto meno tutti gli appassionati del Power Metal più oscuro, gotico e decadente.

L’incipit del platter è scandito dalle note potenti e malinconiche della bella “Cry Among The Stars”, opener massiccia e cadenzata, contraddistinta da un notevole utilizzo delle tastiere che ne enfatizzano l’alone di drammaticità che permea il brano. È comunque la melodia a regnare incontrastata, grazie all’ottimo lavoro svolto dalle due asce e soprattutto alle interessanti armonie vocali interpretate dal cantante Luca Meloni, mentre il polistrumentista Francesco Lupi si rivela abile nel condurre la trama del brano al cospetto di un refrain molto suggestivo.
Lo stile gotico del gruppo italiano permane nel prosieguo della bella “The Oracle And The Muse”, la quale fotografa ancora una volta una band ben preparata tecnicamente ed ispirata in fase di composizione, allestendo un episodio articolato e ben strutturato, abile nel mescolare potenza e melodia, veri marchi di fabbrica del sound dei Tragodia.

“A Temple In Time”, resta ancora saldamente imperniata sull’elegante lavoro chitarristico che appare quale motore primario nelle composizioni del quintetto, durante le quali una sezione ritmica affilata, risulta comunque sempre in prima linea.
La band predilige episodi intricati ed evocativi proprio come nel caso della gelida “Wisdom In The Meadows Of Sorrow”, ricchissima di spunti melodici e soluzioni ritmiche elaborate, in grado di aumentare esponenzialmente il valore di questa terza fatica del combo tricolore.
Atmosfere romantiche e plumbee pervadono le note della suggestiva “Tidal Waves Of Greatness”, superba ballad elettro acustica, nella quale emerge il lato più intimista dell’anima dei Tragodia, qui protagonisti di una fuga Gothic pregevolmente pura.
“Once In Arcadia” torna su sonorità parecchio più Heavy e decise che non deludono e rinfrancano l’ascoltatore con sprazzi di energia, mentre la seguente “The Stone And The Idol”, presenta un maestoso tappeto sinfonico d’accompagnamento, anche se in realtà il brano non sembra discostarsi molto da quanto ascoltato finora.
Decisamente più interessante è invece la successiva “Born Under Niobe”, imperniata su una serie di riff granitici ed ipnotici, prima che la melodia arrivi a dominare la situazione nel malinconico chorus.

Un pulsante riff di basso scandisce l’incedere della furiosa title track, contraddistinta dall’ottima prova del vocalist lombardo mentre le ultime fasi di questo terzo capitolo targato Tragodia vedono protagoniste le belle e tetre “The Weepimg Rock Of Seriphus” e “Downfall Of The Ancients”, quest’ultima inclusa nell’album come bonus track.
Un bel sigillo al gradito ritorno di una band sicuramente da non sottovalutare, divenuta ormai una sicurezza della scena Metal nostrana e pronta per il balzo in avanti definitivo." [Francesco Sgrò]

"Italian progressive metal. Three little words that gets grown men and women weeping with joy. You just gotta love the Italians. They might be sailing against the wind all the time but they sure know how to write really cool metal albums. You might have read the interview already. And out what and now you want to find out what the new album sounds like. This is progressive metal in the not Dream Theater school. I can think of a number of bands that this reminds me of but most of all I come to think of a harder Fates Warning for some reason. A really harder Fates Warning. There is nothing soft about this album yet it sits so comfortably alongside the more melodic side of metal. There is also a touch of modern metal to this, the harder edged stuff you find in for example metalcore. This is quickly became a new fave of mine." [Anders Ekdahl]

" Avevamo lasciato i Tragodia all'inizio dello scorso anno con la sorpresa 'Theomacy', un ottimo cd che proiettava il combo bresciano direttamente verso i gradini più alti della scena italiana (e non solo); un enorme passo in avanti rispetto al pur pregevole debutto 'The Promethean Legacy', ragion per cui si facevano sempre più numerose le aspettative e di conseguenza anche le pressioni che si erano venute a creare attorno al gruppo: sarebbero stati capaci quantomeno di mantenere lo standard costruito dopo anni e anni di gavetta? I Tragodia riescono con nostra somma gioia a fugare qualsiasi dubbio visto che con questa release ci offrono nuovamente una prestazione davvero coi fiocchi sotto tutti i punti di vista. Una produzione dal taglio moderno, di caratura internazionale, così pregna di suoni cristallini è uno degli elementi che ci colpiscono subito all'orecchio, frutto del magistrale lavoro effettuato presso gli Elfo Studio di Piacenza. I brani che ne vengono fuori partono da una rocciosa base heavy, ma ciò nonostante mantengono una linea tendenzialmente melodica per poi svilupparsi in maniera decisamente personale attingendo in maniera saggia anche da altre realtà, come ad esempio il gothic o il groove-metal, senza tralasciare alcune componenti di stampo progressivo-sinfoniche, dando luogo ad una successione di emozioni che variano senza soluzione di continuità, composizioni che accumulano tensione e sofferenza sempre pronte a sprigionare aggressivi riffs di chitarra da parte delle twin guitars con le urla disperate dell'ottimo Luca Meloni a gettare benzina sul fuoco, autentico trascinatore del gruppo, abile nell'essere camaleontico alternando nella giusta misura harsh vocals e soluzioni più ad ampio respiro. Splendidi gli interventi delle tastiere e del synth che non escono mai fuori dal seminato permettendo all'opera di mantenere quel mood malinconico, oscuro e a tratti claustrofobico che ben si sposa con una certa raffinatezza nell'esecuzione e nell'interpretazione. Sarebbe riduttivo indicare un brano che si eleva rispetto agli altri visto che l'opera dev'essere assolutamente apprezzata nella sua interezza, ma per farvi meglio comprendere la portata della proposta della band si potrebbe citare "A Temple In Time", che si conclude con un bellissimo piano dopo il darkeggiante e solenne incedere ritmico.

"I have had the opportunity over the last few months to review some really good Progressive Metal bands that I didn’t know of beforehand. Groups that come to mind are Withem, Prospekt, Lalu, Maschine, and Until Rain. Well, go ahead and add Tragodia to the list. Hailing from Brescia, Italy, these Metalheads are releasing their third full-length album Mythmaker on Kolony Records. There are a lot of different influences going on here, some in your face, others more subtle. The amalgamation into this Progressive Metal style of Tragodia works quite well. While maybe not quite as “progressive” as some other bands, Tragodia employs some of the expected Prog Metal elements and keeps things interesting with the exploration and incorporation of Thrash, Power Metal, and the occasional almost-harsh vocals.

Tragodia offers an aggressive and versatile progressive approach to Metal in the melodic vein while demonstrating effective and interesting songwriting skills. They don’t really venture into odd time signatures or execute a lot of syncopated passages. Present are massive sections of crushing, classic Metal infused with attitude. The guitar work by Francesco Lupi and Riccardo Tonoli is compelling while drummer Daniele Valseriati offers more than the standard back beat. They at times tend toward a Gothic feel, but without the clichéd female vocals.

Before I heard a single note, I assumed I knew what I was going to hear. The song titles imply (if not shout) epic, drawn out works in which the individual members display their musical aptitude. Well, that assumption is incorrect, as most of the songs are less than 5 minutes in length and the longest is just over 6. The ‘noodling’ is non-existent as well, making this a total group effort.

A Cry Among the Stars quickly builds from lone guitar strains into a killer, mid-paced track featuring interesting guitar work, melodic mid-range vocals, and lots of double bass and heavy riffing. Oh – and a smoking guitar solo. Blast beats and Nevermore-like riffing introduce The Oracle and the Muse. A Temple in Time is straight forward and rather simplistic, but compelling nonetheless while Wisdom in the Meadows of Sorrow brings the Thrash influence to the forefront. The chorus seems to be a little off in this one, but redeeming it is the stellar guitar work once again. The first half of Mythmaker wraps up with Tidal Waves of Greatness, essentially the ballad of the album. While well written and executed, I find it to be a little bland compared to the rest of the album.

Once in Arcadia brings back a lot of the elements from the opener – mid-paced, great guitar work, and interesting drumming. The group vocals during the chorus are effective and make what might otherwise be an OK section really stand out. The Stone and the Idol really comes across to me as something a band like Epica might do, but with clean mid-range male vocals and without female vocals. It’s all right, but not my favorite song. Born Under Niobe, however, is. It features Nevermore style riffing once again, aggressive vocals, and exemplary songwriting and musicianship all around. The title track follows and keeps up the aural assault of machine gun staccato riffing and in your face aggressiveness, refined and focused. It gives way to the closing instrumental The Weeping Rock of Seriphus, bold and big, probably the closest thing to an epic track on the album.

Mythmaker is a pleasant surprise and exposed me to a band I had not heard before. I will have to explore Tragodia’s other albums now. If you enjoy melodic Metal that retains a sense of heaviness, includes a Thrash ethic, and has a touch of Progressive, you would do well to check out Mythmaker." [Harley]

"Tragodia er fra Italien, og bandet blev dannet i 1996. I 2007 udgav bandet deres første full-length, The Promethean Legacy. Mythmaker er bandets tredje udgivelse. Men bandet er indtil nu ukendt for mig.

Jeg vil beskrive stilen som Power Metal med klare progressive elementer. Nogle steder har jeg set stilen beskrevet som Gothic Metal. Det har jeg nok lidt vanskeligt ved at se som helt dækkende, om end det måske nok er at drive det for vidt at kalde den label misvisende.

Mythmaker starter med “A Cry Among the Stars”; et meget melodisk nummer, der starter med langsom guitar, så kommer trommer og guitar og bygger op mod et godt kraftfuldt mid-tempo nummer. Så kommer et meget melodisk guitar lead og en ’vellydende’ vokal. Vokalen forekommer pakket ind i teknik, men det lyder godt, og der er en god stemme. Nummerets styrke er det melodiske, men også i variationen, der fastholder fokus på nummeret, skal fremhæves.

Næste nummer holder ikke niveauet, men på ”A Temple In Time” er vi tilbage på sporet. Et episk nummer, igen smykket med vellydende guitar. Samme episke tilsnit genfindes i Mythmakers måske bedste ”The Stone and the Idol”.

Men før vi når dertil, har vi været ovre bl.a. ”Wisdom In the Meadows of Sorrow”, som har et mere ’heavy’ tilsnit, og hvor vokalstilen i hvert fald i starten bliver lidt anderledes. Der er bestemt ikke noget galt i nummeret, men jeg har nok lidt svært ved at føle, at numret hænger naturligt sammen med de foregående. Dette ’problem’ bliver lidt gennemgående for resten af Mythmaker, hvor en række numre synes at ’stikke lidt ud’. F.eks. det i øvrigt også glimrende ”Mythmaker”.

Således står Mythmaker som et udgivelse fyldt med melodisk vellydende progressiv Power metal. Det er godt skrevet musik med masser af variation – på enkelte numre måske lige lidt for meget for min smag. Men som album synes jeg ikke, at Mythmaker er helt homogen. Lyden er gennemgående, og det høres, at der er tale om musik fra den samme plade, alligevel er der i mine øre så meget variation, at det ikke fremstå som en fremadskridende oplevelse at høre Mythmaker. Men det kan og skal ikke ændre på, at de enkelte numre generelt er stærke." [Ougaard]

"Metal Archives has let me down. Upon receiving the promo for the new Tragodia release, Mythmaker, I decided to prep myself with some homework. I know that the MA is famously awful with genre definitions (mostly by virtue of allowing a large [and often uninformed] userbase to manipulate artist details), but still, ‘Gothic/Progressive Metal’ with lyrical themes on ‘Ruins and Decadence’, wow. I hadn’t even heard a note and I was ready to bring down hell on what I could only imagine was an absolutely awful piece of music. Heck, they’ve even got a demo called “All Our Miseries”. I was mentally preparing for brooding, worn out, self concerned gothic crap. What I got was my ass kicked unmercifully.

Despite every bit of expectation I had for some serious crap, Tragodia took it in exactly the opposite direction. Instead of some brooding garbage that I was in no mood to hear, I was treated to the most enjoyable melodic progressive metal I’ve heard since DGM back… sometime at the start of this year. The rhythm guitars are top notch, with a lot of tasteful technicality. Look in particular to “A Cry Among The Stars”, “A Temple In Time”, and “The Stone and the Idol”.

While I’m not the biggest melodic prog metal nut on this site, I do hear quite a bit of it through the frenzies that Dan and Arno occasionally erupt into at various albums. I’ve got to say though, for his niche, Tragodia’s vocalist Luca Meloni is certainly in the upper echelon. His delivery is really strong, and he’s got just enough attitude to deliver catchy hooks that absolutely belong with the rather aggressive guitar patterns. The title track “Mythmaker” is another really cool song, no small part of that being the opening bass pattern that I absolutely adore. The rhythm section is absolutely brilliant throughout, moving through some really effective choppy passages in the verses, set against really blazing and smooth stuff in the choruses.

I’ve got to hand it to Tragodia: in a year I thought it impossible to fit any more great progressive metal into my list, they’ve made a pretty big dent. It’s a sign of the times that prog metal is in such a great place. But even for a great run in a great year, Tragodia really stands out. I thought it was a great decision to throw the one slower song right in the middle of the album, and particularly between two faster tracks. I like the song, it’s got great classical guitar stuff and it’s played masterfully. A few other assorted observations: every song has a really great intro. I’m not sure if this would appeal to fans of Pagan’s Mind, because I don’t particularly like Pagan’s Mind, but I really like this. All the same, it feels like an apt comparison, without being as soulless as Pagan’s Mind. Another apt comparison at times is Firewind, who I like quite a bit. Anyways, absolutely check this album out – you’ll be impressed with its consistency, strength of comparison, and even at times emotional resonance (nothing too heart wrenching, but still quite expressive)." La professionalità, la capacità di proporre al pubblico un genere maturo, moderno e coinvolgente, ha permesso alla band bresciana di ritagliarsi uno spazio importante anche all’estero. A pochi mesi dall’uscita del terzo disco in carriera, abhiamo raggiunto il drummer Daniele Valseriati, per saperne di più del mondo dei Tragodia..

Un solo disco nei primi dodici anni di carriera ed ora “Theomacy” e “Mythmaker” in soli dodici mesi. E’ arrivata l’ispirazione in casa Tragodia?

Il dato più significativo è certamente relativo al fatto che siamo riusciti a breve distanza dall’uscita di “Theomachy” a concentrare tutte le nostre energie nella fase compositiva e a rientrare velocemente in studio. Ciò è stato possibile, da un lato in ragione di un obbiettivo comune di tutti i membri della band (e in questo una solida line-up aiuta), e d’altro lato da deadlines molto precise stabilite dalla casa discografica.

Quali sono i punti in comune tra “Mythmaker” ed il suo predecessore? E le principali differenze?

A mio modo di vedere la principale differenza tra “Theomachy” e “Mythmaker” sta nella genuinità compositiva del nostro ultimo lavoro, nel senso che si sono lasciate scorrere senza grosse limitazioni le idee compositive e di arrangiamentidi tastiera, che ora sono meno invasivi e timbricamente più moderni. Il punto di contatto tra i due album sta nell’essere un prodotto “Tragodia”. Le nostre canzoni hanno due anime: una più razionale, sognatrice e melodica l’altra più istintiva, rozza e ritmica e credo che questo equilibrio tra melodia e potenza sia il nostro tratto distintivo. Inoltre, i punti in comune sono dati dalla cura dei particolari, sia per quanto attiene alla registrazione, sia per quanto attiene alla grafica. Interpretiamo i nostri lavori nella loro interezza, cercando di curarne tutti gli aspetti, dalla musica alle liriche, dalla registrazione sino alla grafica. Il nostro proposito è essere il più sinceri possibile in sede di registrazione per potere riprodurre in sede live esattamente ciò che l’ascoltatore sente sul cd.

Quali sono le caratteristiche salienti del nuovo nato e a quale fetta di pubblico potrebbero piacere le song di “Mythmaker”?

“Mythmaker” è una album prettamente metal che ha in sé varie caratteristiche che potrebbero piacere all’ascoltatore del prog, dell’epic come dell’ascoltatore thrash.

Vi sentite portavoce, in un certo senso, di un modo di concepire la musica se vogliamo più colto a 360 gradi, dalle parti strumentali ai testi?

Cerchiamo di non tralasciare nulla. Ogni aspetto è importante e deve essere coerente per essere credibile.

Come mai la scelta di affidare il mastering agli Sterling Sound di New York? Siete soddisfatti del lavoro finale?

Siamo molto soddisfatti. Avevamo intenzione di sentire che tipologia di sonorità poteva uscire da quello studio. Avevamo voglia di osare e provare a lavorare senza rivolgerci ai più noti studi di mastering europei (senza peraltro nulla togliere a questi ultimi).

Cosa rappresenta la splendida copertina?

La copertina è frutto della fantasia del chitarrista Riccardo a cui va tutto il merito della grafica. Avevamo bisogno di un simbolo, di qualcosa che potesse essere facilmente riconoscibile e nel quale ci potessero essere dei rimandi al nostro mondo. I due elementi fondamentali sono la T di Tragodia e la maschera della tragedia.

Tecnica strumentale e ispirazione compositiva, come riescono a coesistere nelle canzoni dei Tragodia?

Riescono a coesistere in virtù delle nostre due anime: sognatrice e istintiva assemblate in modo da risultare credibili.

La promozione di “Theomachy” vi ha permesso di girare in Europa in lungo ed in largo, quali esperienza avete portato a casa da questo tour?

Stiamo suonando in Europa e devo dire che l’esperienza è più che positiva. Il dato principale è quello di cercare di suonare al meglio anche giocando “fuori casa”. Ciò non è semplice e ci mette alla prova ma, è il dato che ci può far crescere. Non sai mai come verrai accolto all’estero, ma se dal vivo dai tutto te stesso, il pubblico in breve tempo rimarrà coinvolto: questa è la più grande soddisfazione che possiamo trarre dalle nostre date fuori dall’Italia.

Musica in digitale o il caro vecchio cd: voi da che parte state?

Stiamo da tutte e due le parti. Non si può competere oggi senza il digitale anche se la “materia” per me personalmente ha molto più fascino.

Quali sono i prossimi appuntamenti che vi aspettano e cosa avete in cantiere per il futuro?

Gli obbiettivi rimangono due: suonare il più possibile all’estero e promuovere “Mythmaker” oltre a tornare il più velocemente possibile in studio di registrazione!" [Alessandro Battini]

"Drak s velkou otevřenou tlamou plnou špičatých zubů ve dvou řadách, který spolkne všechno, co mu jen na chvíli zkříží cestu, aby svou potravu nejprve vstřebal a pak světu ukázal, že hudba nemusí být nutně jednoduchá jen proto, aby byla chytlavá a krásná. Právě tohle zvíře s mnoha kostnatými výrůstky, ale stále ladným a aerodynamickým tělem plující v nekonečném oceánu motivů, tónů a melodií, je italská TRAGODIA. Kapela vznikla v roce 1996 a od té doby až do dnešních dnů úspěšně brázdí vody progresivního hudebního žánru. Jejich poslední počin je nazvaný „Mythmaker“ a jde o nesmírně zajímavé dílko, které si pánové nechali zmixovat ve vyhlášeném studiu UE Nastasi, kde točili například PARADISE LOST, GOIRA, nebo třeba LAMB OF GOD. Navíc pro Evropu bylo vylisováno 1000 kopií zabalených do moc hezkého digipacku, ve kterém nechybí ani knížečka s kompletními texty a fotkami muzikantů.

Skladby na tomto nosiči jsou procházkou po italských památkách se všemi jejich krásami i neduhy. Zpěv Luca Meloniho je naprosto sebejistý a tím pádem i přesvědčivý, jako Vatikán se svojí vírou. Jenže stejně tak, jako Vatikán není bez poskvrny, tak i Lucův hlas má jednu nečistotu a tou je přesně ten pravý rockový drive, díky němuž se zpěv naprosto hodí do hudby, kterou se kapela prezentuje. Především je tento fakt slyšitelný ve druhém kousku s názvem „The Oracle And The Muse“, ve kterém je zakódováno hned několik jeho poloh. Oproti tomu pátý štych s počátečním kytarovým motivem jako od starých heavy harcovníků je procházkou po večerních Benátkách. Svou atmosférou evokuje zasněné písně gondoliérů plujících nesčetnými kanály dále do tmy. Devátá skladba nesoucí stejný název jako celá deska, tedy „Mythmaker“, je asi ze všech ostatních, kromě poslední „Downfall Of The Ancients“, nejprogresivnějším kouskem na celém albu. O této skladbě by se dalo napsat, že ukazuje Itálii přesně tak, jak vypadá. Špinavá mořská voda v přístavech a docích se snoubí s čistým alpským sněhem, zatímco města plná smogu a prachu vyvažují sakrální stavby skýtající útočiště plné ticha a posvátné atmosféry. Jinými slovy se dá napsat, že i přes náročnost hry všech muzikantů skladba nepostrádá rytmy a harmonie, díky kterým se celá píseň zdá naprosto hladkým a skvěle poslouchatelným kouskem. Poslední již vzpomínaný zásek v podobě „Downfall Of The Ancients“ je bonusovým trackem a proto je naprosto jiný, než zbytek alba. V případě tohoto songu se jedná spíš o surovější
verzi bez veškerých příkras. Stejně jako v této zemi od obchodníků s rybami jde i z této skladby slyšet jistá naléhavost a touha.

Ony kompletně všechny songy nesou odkaz italské elegance a smyslu pro detail. Často se přistihnu, jak se vší pozorností poslouchám všudypřítomné trylky, kterými jsou části skladeb doslova protkány. Na co nesmím zapomenout, je skvělá kytarová hra, nesoucí posluchače od rocku, přes heavy metal až po thrash s nesčetnými sóly. Sóly majícími hlavu i patu a začínajícími přesně tam, kde to skladba potřebuje.

Možná se mnohým může zdát hudba TRAGODIE napoprvé trošku nepřístupná kvůli nestandardnímu zvuku, ale věřte, že po pár posleších se do nálad skladeb a veškerých melodií, sól a rytmiky doslova zamilujete. Když už jsem vzpomněl zvuk nahrávky, tak ten je naprosto čistý a precizní. Atmosférické bicí udávají rytmiku zastřeným kytarám položeným někde ve středových pásmech a to posouvá nahrávku někam do úplně jiných sfér, než je v dnešní době běžné. Nutno ale dodat, že i přes tento nezvyklý mix je vše naprosto s přehledem slyšet a nic se pod ničím neztrácí.

Ze začátku jsem chtěl dát sedm bodů, protože mi to celé přišlo sice pěkné, ale divné. Dnes, po měsíci poslechu, nemám problém dát osm. Už jen proto, že se občas v noci vzbudím a v hlavě mi hraje melodie právě z tohoto CD. Možná bych i přidal, kdybych psal tuto recenzi později, neboť s každým dalším poslechem je mi tato nahrávka blíž a blíž." [Luma]
