Started in just April of this year, Trial by Ordeal is the metal blog for people who don't read metal blogs- a new voice established with the goal of projecting a more authentic voice for the metal scene than others would bother to. TbO isn't about leaks of the newest Nuclear Blast release, explorations of how Liturgy is transcending black metal convention, or mindlessly reviewing and interviewing any band that stumbles its way into a record deal. Instead, we seek to sink our teeth into the real meat of the metal scene: reviews and interviews of interesting, underappreciated bands, discussion around news in the metal scene, and, perhaps most importantly, in-depth essays and explorations of ideological and musical concepts within metal. TbO, however, doesn't stop at metal; while it is and always will be the main focus of the site, periodic dips into extreme electronic music, dark ambient, punk, hardcore, and even hip-hop have all popped up at one point or another. The only guidelines we have for our writing are these:
