Triple Headliner Guess.

Ok so we're driving down now, and throwing out our guesses:

Triple Headliner:
Blind Guardian
Iced Earth
Demons & Wizards

"Mystery Band" (Not necessarily all as a triple headliner, but any one part of it)
King Diamond/Merciful Fate
King Crimson
Opeth
Dream Theater
Volbeat (I know they tour a lot, but that would put them under the "Never thought I'd get a call from" category)

I would say all of these are probably too big for the fest.

I'd say Sabaton is a very good possibility for 2013, as they haven't played the festival since 2009 and they've exploded in Europe since.

Sonata Arctica would be another possibility, although I don't think it would be as strong of a headliner as Sabaton.

Accept would be an interesting choice, although they're more straightforward metal than either Power or Prog. It's interesting that they are skipping Atlanta during this year's run with Kreator, even though Kreator are playing the Masquerade in October. On the other hand, Accept might be too expensive for the festival, but perhaps they could do the pre-festival gig like Nightwish/Kamelot this year.

Never thought I'd get a call: Anathema

That is why I said Shadow Gallery. Glenn has always tried to invite them, but the schedules did not mix. Glenn has always said that the ball was in "their court". Hence, Glenn never expected them to call him to play PPUSA.....until next year!

A Tribute To Death

Remember, you need to get people down to Atlanta. Blind Guardian won't do it as people will see them near their city. Iced Earth has already cemented the PPUSA name. Do not know if Schaffer will do it again. Demons and Wizards is on the Savatage list aka never going to happen. Marillion will never play stateside again, and they are a poor fit for this festival. I think Rage may be a nice fit, but the cost might be prohibitive. Glenn could sell his house and car and clean out his 401k and public pension, and still could not afford DT, Avantasia, Opeth or Volbeat. The only group in this that I can actually see doing PPUSA AND possibly sell out the joint is King Diamond. The reason is that when was the last time he did any touring at all? The only real cost is the appearance fee, since you have very few, if any, visas involved (Again, I could be wrong on this). And, if this is his only show (which is a distinct possibility), it would be the fastest sellout in history, and all but guarantee a PP XV.

Edit: I forgot that Marillion played here in June. I still believe they would be a poor fit for PPUSA.
