Earlier today, Thursday, June 5, Rogers, OEG Sports & Entertainment and the National Hockey League (NHL) announced that multi-platinum, award-winning rock band The Glorious Sons will headline the Rogers Festival at the Final, a free outdoor concert in the ICE District ahead of Game 2 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers on Friday, June 6. Joining them for a special performance are Canadian rock legends Triumph, adding to the celebration in downtown Edmonton.
The Glorious Sons will deliver a full headlining set before Game 2, featuring fan favorites and chart-topping hits. Kicking off the event, Triumph will take the stage for their first public performance since 2008, treating fans to a three-song set including their iconic hit “Lay It On The Line”, which has become a rallying anthem for Canadians during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
SiriusXM radio personality Eddie Trunk has since shared a highly significant update:
“The Triumph radio special planned for my show tomorrow live from Toronto is still on. As I’m sure you have heard the NHL now has asked the band to play at the Oilers game tomorrow. Gil (Moore – drums, vocals) and Rik (Emmett – guitar, vocals) are going to play in Edmonton 3 songs with Phil X, Brent Fitz and Todd Kerns. Mike Levine is not playing and will be with me in studio in Toronto along with producer Mike Clink. Gil and Rik will call in live from Edmonton. Still live usual time 3-5P ET on SiriusXM 103. We will cover it all as it happens however Gil and Rik now have to join on the phone because of this last minute reunion/gig for hockey playoffs.”
Phil X (Aldo Nova, Frozen Ghost) was a member of Triumph from 1992-1993, appearing on the Edge Of Excess album.
Brent Fitz and Todd Kerns are both members of Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, as well as Toque.
Furthermore, Phil X, Todd Kerns, and Brent Fitz have all contributed to Magic Power: All Star Tribute To Triumph, which is set for release tomorrow – Friday, June 6.
Phil X plays guitar on “Spellbound”, “Hold On”, “I Live For The Weekend”, “Follow Your Heart”, and “Allied Forces” – on which he sings lead vocal as well.
Todd Kerns plays bass on “Rock & Roll Machine”, “Magic Power”, “Spellbound”, and “I Live For The Weekend”.
Brent Fitz plays drums on “Hold On”.
Although fans will still have to wait for June 6 for the release of the star-studded tribute album, Magic Power: All Star Tribute To Triumph, another preview of one of the many standout tracks from the release, “Fight The Good Fight”, featuring Heart legend Nancy Wilson on vocals, is now available for streaming here.
Watch the official visualizer for “Fight The Good Fight” feat. Nancy Wison below:
Other rockers featured on Magic Power include Dee Snider, Dorothy, Sebastian Bach, Nancy Wilson, Joey Belladonna and Jeff Keith.
The 15-track album features an amazing collection of musical firepower, including drummers Kenny Aronoff and Tommy Aldridge, and guitarists Bumblefoot, Paul Gilbert, Nita Strauss. The project was conceived by renowned producer Mike Clink – who has produced classic recordings for Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe and Whitesnake.
The album will be released on CD with a 12 page booklet and as a double LP gatefold edition. Pre-order here.
The participants are extremely honored to salute Triumph, including Phil X, who went on to say, “It is so incredible to get back to my roots with my brothers, Gil, Mike and Rik. The Triumph fans will love this!”
Enthusiastically, Journey drummer Deen Castronovo commented, “Triumph was a huge influence, no Gil Moore, no Deen Castronovo singing behind a kit.”
Furthermore, Sebastian Bach said, “The music of Triumph will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m super proud to pay tribute to one of my favorite bands of all time…the Rock n’ Roll Machine known as TRIUMPH!”
Originally formed in 1975 and hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the trio was always proud of their Great White North roots. And seemingly ever since their inception, Triumph was on the cutting edge of technology when it came to their live show – particularly lighting, sound, and effects.
Sophisticated lasers, pyrotechnics and moving lighting rigs, all computer-controlled – Triumph was one of the first arena rock bands to incorporate all of these elements into their shows. Triumph’s headlining tours were legendary, and the band was featured on many memorable stadium/outdoor shows – including the US Festival, the World Series of Rock, the American Rock Festival and Texxas Jam, Day on the Green, to name but a few.
And now, fans will be able to re-experience Triumph classics in a whole new way – via Magic Power: All-Star Tribute To Triumph.
