Hi all!

Most (if not all) of you guys are beasts with the amp sims and I'm slowly getting used to them and getting some good results but my tones seem to be lacking a really heavy pick attack twang that I noticed a lot of you guys get and was wondering if you have any tips on how to get that lovely mid heavy piercing note definition.

I'm assuming it has a lot to do with pickups and I have an EMG 81/7 on the way but for now I'm just using stock Schecter pickups in my seven string into Preampus Metal C-15 ->Lecab 2 with sneap edge & spreshigh mixed and the usual high and low passes plus a small scoop to let everything else breathe.

It sounds fine in a sort of early Ensiferum way but it's missing that aggressive attack twang. I've tried small boosts in the mids and some parts of the highs but that just seems to create either more boxy darkness or fizz.

Sorry I can't post a clip but I'm nowhere near my recording computer and I need something to chew over until I get back!

Like I say a lot of you guys seem to really get this twang in your tones but the best example is probably the tone from Mr Monsonis in his excellent 'Teaser.' video

I'm not looking for a carbon copy of the tone but I'd like to get this lovely twangy attack without letting fizz or mud in.

Cheers all, any tips will be great!

Phew!

Try reworking your chain from the beginning, starting with something like TSE 808. A Tubescreamer sim can tighten things nicely and add nice definition to the notes.

Hey thanks for the reply!

I tried using the TSE 808 before the amp and some other boost pedal sims from GTR and various others (I even used an amp sim or two as a boost) and it just seemed to give me more fizz.

I'll give it another bash though! :)

Guitar tones seem to be the one place I fall on my arse with my ear! :|

The "twang" string attack you're referring to relies most heavily (in my experience) on fresh strings and the PLAYER (i.e. digging into the strings/using a heavy pick attack). The guitar/pickup, amp/cab/, and mic are secondary.

TWANG?

Here I was thinking this was a thread about that lovely sound of a Fender Telecaster :(
