I used a CAD M177 and SM57 on vocals. Seventh Circle N72 preamps.

Yeah I built them myself. I have a great deal of soldering experience and an Electronics Engineering degree. So these preamps were VERY easy for me to construct.
For the average guy they can be a bit of a challenge but well worth it.
You can also buy pre-assembled pres from Seventh Circle, but there is usually a quite long lead time.

I love the N72 preamps. The A12 is also awesome.
