A question about the cab/mic'ing. Could you describe the position of the mic? Did you post process the signal? Looking at it through the meters and seeing something I've never seen out of V30s. Or... maybe on Liquid Tension Acid Rain.

I was under the impression that 6CA7 is simply the American name for an EL34?

As I recall, the 6CA7 was the American electronic equivalent to the EL-34, but the construction was not entirely the same as the European EL-34. It consisted of some design features similar to the 6L6 giving it sonic characteristics like a cross between an EL-34 and a 6L6.
