So, I'm interested in building the best PC for music production that I can. Like, good enough to run 256 simultaneous tracks in Cubase 6.5. Or at least 128.

This is the current hardware I had in mind:
Motherboard - MSI X79A-GD45
Processor - Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E 3.3GHz
Video Card - EVGA 04G-P4-3687-KR GeForce GTX 680 FTW+ 4GB (Two in SLI)
RAM - CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 32GB (4 x 8GB) 2400 (Two sets)
Power Supply - LEPA G Series G1600-MA 1600W Full Modular

I plan on having 1TB worth of SSD space, and a 2TB 7200rpm Harddrive, and also water-cooling the entire system.

Am I going to have any problems running 128-256 tracks with plugins on most of them? I'm really curious about this, because I have a server PC setup in mind as well, with dual 8-core processors and 96GB of ram, but I'm not interested in spending the extra $$$.

So tell me, will it be enough? :err:

Thats a fucking beast of computer. It will be enough but i can not swear it will be able to run 256 tracks, it depends on how many heavy VSTi plugins you planning on running.

May not be what your after but a pro tools HDX system will perform DSP without consuming system resources, as installing a random assortment of high specked gear may not necessarily result in a good computer

If planing to spent sooooooo much $$$$ consider this for ssd,of course not 24 ssd ,2x500gb or 4x250gb connected in raid will be fine.
