The concept of Israeli Black Metal has always seemed to ironic to me to take this band with any thread of seriousness.

Melechesh is in my top 5 favorite bands. Their last 3 albums are nothing short of masterpieces. Very creative band to say the least. Great dynamics, lots of hidden nuances, incredible songwriting, excellent musicianship, awesome lyrics and beautiful melodies.

They're not Israeli, so you have nothing to worry about
(forming in Israel does not make them Israeli)

The new one sounds great, but I miss Sir Proscriptor. Though the new guy is spectacular, as well, in his own right.

Melechesh's Myspace

First song off of Djinn (the first track was this song's acoustic melody). Genies, Sorcerers And Mesopotamian Nights

Hymn To Gibil, off of As Jerusalem Burns... Al'Intisar. Not quite as folkish or thrashy. This has a lot of Marduk influences (particularly around the Opus Nocturne album).

Guitarist Moloch, playing a buzuq at a Young Palestinian concert in France.

It doesn't really matter so much who plays the drums. I was very surprised to find out that Ashmedi writes about 98% of the drum patterns. That way, everything works to help build the actual song, instead of all the musicians showing off what they are capable of.

I do miss Proscriptor as well, though. There was something about his playing that was really unique. His playing is very charismatic and natural. Xul is an amazing drummer as well, but he kind of lacked that certain quality that is unique to Proscriptor.

Au Contraire!
Yes, it does.
No, it doesn't. Just like people living in the US without citizenship, are not Americans.
The members of the band were not actually Israeli. Read this interview. He states it pretty early on, and also mentions that this was part of the reason why he left Israel.
Either he, or Moloch, also mentioned it to me when I interviewed them, but I think that was before the actual interview
