ultra brillant band

Also, James:
At times Melechesh is mistakenly referred to as an Israeli Band, due to the fact that the band started their career in Jerusalem (and Bethlehem) and operated from there between 1993-1997, However mainly residing in Amsterdam during most of their career. Currently the band is comprised of four ethnicities according to the group itself: Armenian/Assyrian (Ashmedi), Assyrian (Moloch), Dutch (Xul) and Ukrainian (Al' Hazred). However, Marco De Bruin aka KAWN is their official live bass player and has been so since 2004

Furthermore, some people think Melechesh has Egyptian mythological themes, while in their 13-year career, Melechesh have never sung about any Egyptian theme.

Their first album (As Jerusalem Burns, which was originally a demo) was pure black metal in the vein of Marduk, with some Near-Eastern touches.
Siege Of Lachish, and their last 3 albums, are Mesopotamian thrashing black metal (blackened thrash written with ancient, meditative, Mesopotamian folk theories)

It doesn't really matter so much who plays the drums. I was very surprised to find out that Ashmedi writes about 98% of the drum patterns. That way, everything works to help build the actual song, instead of all the musicians showing off what they are capable of.

I do miss Proscriptor as well, though. There was something about his playing that was really unique. His playing is very charismatic and natural. Xul is an amazing drummer as well, but he kind of lacked that certain quality that is unique to Proscriptor.

Yeah for sure. I found out that when reading an interview somewhere; Proscriptor was asked how he comes up with those drum patterns, and his response was along the lines of: "oh I just play what Ashmedi says to play" ha ha, but the thing is his natural playing style is just brilliant that he brings his unique touch to whatever he plays. Xul is more straightforward/traditional in comparison.

Honestly I have yet to give Emissaries as exhaustive of a listen as Sphinx or Djinn, but it's seemingly just as impressive as their past works.
