This just in! Ulver is rereleasing their early material! As a boxset! Again!

Well I'll still definitely be buying the CD edition. Bergtatt is one of my top 10 metal albums but I think that it has a horrible mix... It could seriously benefit from a nice remastering.

But seriously how many more times do you guys think they'll rerelease these albums/the demo?

Ha, I was actually coming to post this. Already have it all minus that rehearsal obviously. I'm dubious about the remasters providing any significant difference.

oh please for the glory of the devil NO

to "remaster" a perfectly good album in the year of our lord 2014 almost inextricably means to "rape and ruin"

wolves gotta eat too

and the wallets of all the black metal sheep are always ripe for the pluckin'

Since I paid probably $250+ for The Trilogie boxset, I wonder if I can ask for a discount on this one?

It probably won't even sound much different when it's released. I suppose you're right that there is a possibility for it to sound even worse. Sometimes the album sounds really muddy... the guitars are buried. Like I said, it's one of my all-time favorites. I'd just be interested in another take on the sound.

Hey, at least they're not rerecording anything!

Heads-up y'all niggas. The pre-order is active through cmdistro.com.

Cd set is $50, vinyl is $80. Just ordered mine... $50 is worth it just to replace my shitty, damaged CDs. The booklet sounds pretty cool as well.

You dudes read about the ultramegaok rare stuff that sold out "accidentally" right before the pre-sale? I must admit, I lol'd just a little bit. That is petty of me. So what?

I'm tempted to buy this. But I already have all the original CD pressings, and the vinyl Trilogie, so I don't really need it, but wouldn't mind supporting the band as per usual, and also having some nifty new wolf-like thing to fondle.

Also, I feel as if we haven't discussed Messe I.X-VI.X enough. I will say that that is probably the best Ulver album since Perdition City, and that one was their best since Bergtatt. It's how I feel, very emotional and such.

In closing, I find that Bergtatt is 100% perfect in every way, including the mix. That album really got me to appreciate a variety of things that I hadn't previously enjoyed, including the rough-yet-utterly-glorious sound.

it shipped today!!! way ahead of schedule. my friend already got his copies and he is absolutely stunned by what they did with the albums. i'm downloading a high quality rip right now (since my girlfriend actually purchased this as a christmas present, so i'm going to have to wait until then to actually have it, fuck)

century recently released a statement about this. i guess it was a clear vinyl (ltd 100) edition, and they just accidentally sent out an email with an incorrect preorder date. some people stumbled upon it by accident and it sold out, everyone else cried SHENANIGANS

edit: first impression review

DAMN. great job, in my opinion. what they have done with the demo is pretty outstanding. the rerelease from a few years ago was great but this is a total improvement. trollskogen is just pristine.

praise hail satan, they unfucked the mastering and made "nattens madrigal" actually listenable

it's now dr8 -- the original was dr3 (!!!)

if you always WANTED to love this album but found it fatiguing to listen to in the long run, try it now

this marks the first time i can think of where a re-master is an indisputable improvement upon the original

i wish they would have released the cd's separately so i could have gotten nattens madrigal + rehearsal traxxx without spending big buxxx because i'm not interested in the rest tbh

Yes, theres actually bass! Pretty outstanding job all around. The rehearsal is really cool.... Those alternate harmonies for the breakdown in "I"... Damn. Bergtatt sounds nice too, the album opens up with a pan sweep of that drum intro. Very cool

i personally think bergtatt sounds much, much worse, they destroyed a fair bit of the dynamics and it sounds flat and harsh where the original was airy and open

and not to be a smartypants but the pan sweep was there in the original (it's a remaster, not a remix)

they did make the bass stand out a bit more but i'm not sure that's a good thing either

vargnatt, however, appears to be a slight improvement on the kyrck remaster

it's less ultramaximized

The tape sounds awesome, even without vocals! Also the remaster of Nattens is a lot better, still would've preferred the demo-sound for the whole album. Nice package, with artprint, the price was also very reasonable.
