I haven't heard much talk about Jamie King around here. Maybe once or twice?
His work with BTBAM is phenomenal.
Always found the BTBAM stuff has a somewhat unclear low end and lower mid range, but I think it's partly due to Dan Briggs being a finger bass player rather than a pick player.
Always thought the last 3 BTBAM albums had a cool vibe about them.
I'd dare say I prefer the sound of those albums to a few Sneap and Jens Bogren mixes/productions.
Something about the guitar tone on Colors is kinda cool too. Pretty percussive (no doubt partly to do with Paul and Dustie being amazing guitarists), and this nice, smooth higher mid and upper middyness to it that never sounds too dull.
However, wouldn't call any of the productions phenomenal. There's plenty of things about the production of the BTBAM albums he's worked on that could be improved upon.
Devin Townsend. I've never seen his work mentioned on here, but the stuff he's mixed that isn't his own music is pretty awesome sounding. Everything sounds pretty bad by itself but when it all comes together it sounds beautiful.
Dichotomy by Becoming the Archetype is proof.
Yeah, Dichotomy is his best sounding work too IMO.
Apart from that, everything else he's done is kinda not all that great.
I was listening to Addicted the other day, and it just really struck me how flat and boring the whole thing sounds.
Dichotomy definitely shits all over it.
