I guess there are some decent moments, but most of the music sounds like a cheesey jumbled mess and grates on my ears. I'm not opposed to avant-garde, but this seems really forced, blending genres in a rather contrived way.

Agreed 100%. I've never heard these try-hard losers on record, but in the live setting they came across as a bunch of pretentious dorks who couldn't hold a candle to the bands they were sharing the stage with (Agalloch, November's Doom, The Deceased, Woods of Ypres)
