Upcoming Gigs?

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuhm, maybe Spitting Vitriol at Bongo Club tomorrow night for a kinda dub/grime/breakcore night if there's a squad of us who can be arsed treking through to Edinburgh for a heavy night of madness.

Maiden and Dream Theater in DC

BASTARD!

7/27 - Scorpions (Its a farewell tour. Why not?)
10/1 - Rush (This is a MAYBE now, tickets are expensive as hell.)
11/13 - Bonded by Blood, Gama Bomb, EVILE, Forbidden and Overkill :D
11/17 - Roger Waters

So... Got to Birmingham and straight away went to meet Podgie and Ellie. We went to HMV and a record shop and I got an awesome CD (Invasion - The Master Alchemist). Checked into the hotel, sat about speaking for a bit and then went to the venue to have a better mental map of the city.

Then we were taken on a long walk to a pub (that was near our hotel room so we didn't actually need to walk the way we did...) and had some pretty strong brown ales and then headed out to the gig.

Went in to see if there was any emergency merch (but that is only gonna be ready for Paris tonight). Podgie toyed with the idea of getting a hoodie for ages and then got one. And it's ace! First band on were a bit boring. Rotting Christ were a bit naff but we stood outside for half the set and had a brief chat with Karl.

THEN! Benedicition. They played much more solid than last time (and last time blew me away!) and the sound was just fantastic unlike for the first two bands. But the crowd was dead for Benediction and they got quite worked up of it. They played a blistering set and pulled out loads of classics from Trancsend The Rubicon. REAL grindcore.

Time for Bolt Thrower. The usual intro tape came on and then they took the stage and the sound was soooo good. This isn't the right order but here are the songs that were played:

4th Crusade
For Victory
At First Light
The Killchain
Anti-Tank - Dead Armour
Salvo
Pride
Mercenary
Powder Burns
World Eater/Cenotaph
War Master
Rebirth of Humanity

A VERY suprising Bolt Thrower setlist. Really changed from the last time I saw them with that setlist. Karl sounded better than last time and that's hard to beat because he is such a good vocalist. There was some funny shout outs. Karl thanked Jeff Walker... and who's there at the side of the stage headbanging and singing to Powder Burns? Was pretty cool to see that.

Headed out for some food and to see a friend off and then went back to the hotel to watch the vote counting and left the TV on all night haha. And STILL we have no idea what is happening.

Maybe Podgie knows the order of that setlist... Either way after knowing him for 4 years on the net it's nice to turn that name/face on the screen into a real person. Podgie is a real mate like and I wish he were a local guy... But I'd turn him into a scouser.

But Benediction are a grindcore band. If you'd have said otherwise at the gig it wouldn't have gone down well with the band (it's what happened)

Also it isn't a death metal album. It's a fast album with hardcore punk riffs played in a death metal sort of way. I'd call it grindcore.

I agree with you about the first two bands. Necrotize were okay, but nothing special. Rotting Christ were disappointing, just very dull and boring. Not really much else to say about that... It didn't matter though, Benediction more than made up for the first two bands being a bit rubbish, they were absolutely fantastic! Great songs with loads of energy. I'd have been happy paying the tenner to see them alone. Dave is a great front man, he made me laugh by calling someone a specky-four-eyed cunt(?) for saying grindcore wasn't invented in Birmingham  at least I think that's what he was talking about, anyway.

As for Bolt Thrower, well, what can I say? They were flawless. I'm not sure about the order they played the songs, I know they opened with IVth Crusade but apart from that I'm not sure. World Eater was the highlight for me, which is surprising because it's far from my favourite Bolt Thrower song. It was just immensely powerful live, like nothing I've ever heard before. That riff... :kickass:

I could rant on about it for ages, so I'm going to stop now and spare you. It was a great night though, and it was totally ace finally meeting Dan. I had a load of fun, even if I did end up sounding like a bit of a scouser by this afternoon

Haha! I am only slightly scouse... But I am not a propper scouser.

Podgie and I are too northern. We were talking about it and we can shorten down 2 or 3 works into one. And Greggs seemed to make us smile whenever we saw one.
