Urkraft are notable as a band that really worked hard to perfect what they were about before getting signed, having released an absolute bucket-load of demos previous to signing with Earache. Consider the following: The Inhuman Aberration comes across as something of a mix of At the Gates and something a little more technical, all updated for the 21st century. The band utilise keyboards to subtly augment their sound without drowning out the metallic core of the sound or diluting the intensity of their sound. The songs could be said to be fairly technical without actually being technical death metal, and certainly the band have chops aplenty.

The songs are overall quite memorable and at the same time rock pretty damn hard, whilst providing enough subtle variation to prevent boredom from encroaching too quickly. This album will probably appeal quite nicely to anyone with a love of melodic death metal and/or modern thrash, being as it is, similar in many ways to what the aforementioned At the Gates attempted with Slaughter of the Soul. But make no mistake, this isn't blatant plagiarism in any way. Rather, it comes across as being obviously influenced by what came before it, but at the same time building on top of that and branching it out a little. The entire album is shot through with a sort of science fiction feeling, perhaps an ambiance, that is evocative of where Sci-Fi has been operating as of late. One can imagine an army of clones or maybe androids stomping humanity to death, whilst this album plays in the background. Perhaps Urkraft should sign a deal to do a soundtrack to such a film? Regardless, The Inhuman Aberration is a breath of fresh air in an often crowded and stale genre, and does more than just add N-core to the formula in order to do something a little different.
