Retaliation against Bush Senior:
aljazeera.net said:
Bin Ladin said millions of tonnes of bombs and explosives fell on Iraqi children, under the order of George Bush, just for the sake of ousting an old agent and replacing him by a new agent to help plunder Iraqi oil wealth.

He said the September 11 attacks came in response to those injustices.
I didn't see this reported via the US media.

With how they've sucked political cock the past four years, you wouldn't. :)

Go read up on US policy over the past 30 years, it might say something there.

I wouldn't be surprised if that many were dead, it's kind of hard to bomb a country into bits without killing a few citizens. I wonder what American popular opinion on war would be if the US fought a large scale war at home.

I don't know why, but it just continues to shock me. It's like I'm waiting for the US media to gain its balls back or something, and each time they drop the ball I get so disappointed.

That article on Babylon reminds me of how much history Iraq has, and makes me wonder how much will be left by the time W. is done globetrotting. God damn Crusades.

i don't think I ever heard the 100K number mentioned EVER on US Media ... all I hear is 1000 US Troops ... like the other 99K don't mean shit.

i wonder how this election would turn if this number was out there.

I have never heard an estimate of Iraqi deaths from US media, only the number of US troops like you said. What were the figures for Vietnam? 48,000 US troops and 3 million Vietnamese? Incredible.

The minimum estimate of civilian casualties is fifteen thousand, and given the secrecy of the Bush administration I'm certain it's closer to the report Lurch linked to. Without going into any conspiracy theories, I think the Bin Laden tape may still be harmful to Bush, even if you choose to believe it's a fabrication it's also a reminder of our failure to capture him and limit Al-Qaeda's ability to wage terror...

The poll results are only from people who voted on the english al jazeera site. You had me scratching my head quite vigorously there.

Again, for hilarity's sake, I love how people automatically assume that because a DIFFERENT media outlet reports something, that it must be absolutely true and non-biased because after all, it's not written from the perspective of U.S. bias. LOL.

Fox News reported that Usama discussed why he did 9/11, but that was it. The other articles I read didn't bring it up.

I don't exactly trust the US media anymore, especially concerning the Bush administration. Not that I fully believe ANY media outlet, but some are more trustworthy than others. Aljazeera I don't know well enough to trust, but at this point I'd believe their Iraqi death figures over anything the state dept. releases.

Well let's see. Al-jazheera is a Muslim-run news outlet. Their news coverage is certainly not going to spin things in a pro-U.S. way. I'm just saying, there's no sense in bringing up another media outlet as proof of the "truth" being out there and just not reported by the U.S. media. It's just plain silly to think that way.

Like I said, Fox News reported that the tape stated why Usama did the 9/11 attacks, but didn't go into details. Then Aljazeera said he blamed Bush Sr. So there is little doubt in my mind that at the very least, yes Usama did in fact discuss the reasoning behind the 9/11 attacks on the tape. Then my current general distrust toward the US media for not reporting damaging articles against the Bush family kicks in, so I'm likely to buy this story. What would make this infinitely easy to prove true is to find a confirmed translated transcript of the latest Usama tape, which I'm going to attempt right now.

So do I believe this story? Yes. Would I swear it was absolutely 100% true? No.

One of my friends might be getting Al-jazeera TV someday. I'll be making regular pitstops round there for sure -_-
