USB Interface

i'm skeptical of it considering the 'features' listed brush over audio and emphasize that it is a cool design with LED's... but that could just be musiciansfriend sucking and not the actual product.

I've always been apprehensive of USB interfaces. I've never had good experiences with them...pops, glitches, etc.

From what I understand, USB was never meant to carry audio signals...FireWire is more suited to that I believe.

What would you suggest for a firewire interface for under $200 with similar specs to the lexicon i mentioned above.

I really don't know, I don't use either USB or FireWire. Maybe look at M-Audio? I think they make budget FireWire interfaces...but I don't know if they're under $200.

Im going to buy this when i have the money, its ASIO2 compatible so im going to download cubase(to anyone that apposes digital piracy listen, im 15, i want to get into recording and im not looking to make a dime off anything i record so keep your objections to yourself), if i cant get cubase over the internet, is audacity(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) ok to just get my feet wet with recording. can cubase/audacity master/burn cd or do i need a separate piece of software.

well...

my charge to you then is, if you find yourself into recording/production, buy whichever software you find suits you best when you can. those companies can't put out any software if nobody pays for their efforts.

as for your question, you would use cubase or any other DAW (digital audio workstation) to record, mix and or master your music, and use a seperate program to burn the actual disc image, considering DAW's do not cover that aspect. alternately, you can use other software to master the album. there are a plethora of options out there.

ok, maybe my comment was a little wrong, if i like cubase, i assure i would pay for it when i get serious with recording. For now i wont drop a few hundred bucks on software that i might not like. like i said, im 15, i cant dream about buying 400 dollar software. I know cubase needs money but if i didnt get it over the internet i wouldnt buy it anyway so there losing no money on me. i would go to an open source program like audacity, but i would like to try a really powerful good program, if i like it ill buy it later in life. sorry for the rant.

Does anyone have a good reason why i shouldnt be using cubase, i know i should learn protools but i cant afford their hardware. So if someone thinks i would be better off learning computer recording on another piece of software, speak up.

Hehehe ;)

Scenario #1:

A criminal downloads pirated software A.
If he likes it and the software starts to earn money for him, he buys it.
Or he doesn't buy it no matter what.
If he doesn't like it, he deletes it from his hdd.

Scenario #2:

A good law abiding citizen downloads software B which is a free alternative to software A.
If he likes it, he doesn't even think about buying software A.

If i was an author of software A, i would prefer scenario #1, because there is no possibility for me of getting any money from scenario #2.
