Valkyrie

Haven't seen it. Looks interesting though. I think it would've been much better had it been done in German and subtitled in English.

Tom Cruise as a German Nazi with an American accent kinda throws off the realism since it's based on a true story.

No no I'm sure it's gonna be a great movie, I'm just anal when it comes to this stuff. I would've preferred deutsche with english subtitles, that's all.

It's just a little odd.

I hate Tom Cruise. There's very few movies I can stand him in, I'm on the fence about this one, leaning toward "It's gonna suck" because they didn't even attempt German accents. The real story is a lot more interesting.

I don't understand the whole " I need German accents thing " everyone keeps whining about. I would rather have NO accents instead of the crappy ones you know they would all attempt.
I mean I understand THEY ARE NAZIS without poorly done German accents. It doesn't dimish my understanding or enjoyment of a film.

I'm not saying I want German accents. I want the deutsche language with English subtitles.

The funniest thing about American movies is that sometimes they'll speak in an English accent instead of adopting another one, like that's supposed to make it more realistic or something,.

And Star Wars. Why does the Empire speak in English accents?

It takes away from the setting. I like to get into the film. It doesn't need to BE in German, the average person doesn't care that much but I would like German accents for two reasons: the first being that it fits in with the settings, doesn't take me out of the film if there's a guy who supposed to be German speaking with a New Jersey accent (Much like Enemy at the Gates, Jude aw is supposed to be a bad ass Russian but has an English accent and looks like a faggot pretty boy, IMO I'd rather have seen Ron Perlman do the main role instead of just a cameo) and secondly because I think an actor who has been thrust on such a high pedestal could put a little fucking effort into his work and come up with a convincing German accent and persona. I don't want to see him acting the exact same way he does in Mission Impossible except with a nazi uniform and an eyepatch on ffs.

Meh.

speaking all english with german accents is just as silly as american accents tbh

Well, I'd rather here the silly German accent that the silly American accent if the movie is based in 1930's Germany.

This.

In any case, I'll wait to see the movie. Maybe it will be so riveting that I forget all about Tom Cruise's American accent and will be completely engulfed by the film.

I am one that wants to be completely taken in by a film and forget everything around me, and I dislike historical films which are exaggerated.

See, I just kind of accept the actor's natural voice for what it is most of the time. It doesn't take me out of the film, it actually lets me enjoy the film without going " wow, that is the worst accent I've ever heard " or " his dialect is completely wrong for this " ( see Brad Pitt for reference on both counts. That stupid movie where he was in the IRA, his accent blew ).
Some actors can do accents very well, alot of them cannot. So for simplicities sake, just let me speak normally if they can't do a particular accent. Now for example, when a movie like this is dubbed in spanish, they don't do a Spanish voice with a German accent. No, they dub it in Spanish.

Yes, it is great when they can do it accurately but when they can't just let it be.

Saw it, liked it a lot. Lots of suspense, and as for the accents, at the beginning of the movie they do the whole Hunt for Red October thing and fade from Cruise speaking in German to speaking in English.

EDIT: Also, most of the other actors have British accents because.....they're British.
