I was browsing upcoming CD releases on Amazon this morning and saw this band Valkyrie as I've never heard of them and the cover had an old school vibe. After listening to their myspace, that's exactly what they are as they combine some NWOBHM with doom and psychedelia.

It also looks like they're playing a show with Baroness tonight in Chicago at The Subterranean.

Yeah, unfortunately they're playing in Chicago the same night Cynic is playing Focus. Luckily I'll still get to see Baroness and Torche tomorrow at Wicker Park Fest, but Valkyrie and Earthride will no longer be with them. Yakuza in Arkestra mode will hopefully make up for that though.

Valkyrie played Alehorn the second year. I didnt know they were on the Baroness show. That Wicker Park fest gets some decent size bands there. Hope the weather is nice. All we got in the Uptown Street fest was terrible cover bands.

I'm looking forward to the Earthride / Valkyrie tour when it stops here next Wednesday. There's also a cool local doom metal band Black Pyramid playing this one (but not the whole tour). I've got this pegged as the last show I attend before ProgPower.
