Ok this is really bass heavy and the vocals are a bit loud, but fuck it it suits the style IMO.

I wanted to get far away from the whole clinical sounding death metal thing that's going on. Not only does the whole mix show this there isn't a single bass-drop to be found and the solos are imrov, yay

The guitar used was a Dean razorback with a Dimebucker (thus the not-so-pleasant tone)

It's all well and good taking the LOL IM NOT MAKING STERILE RECORDINGS moral high ground, but you aren't making a mix that sounds at all cohesive either.

And so what if there's no bass drops and the solos are improvised? The solos aren't very good.
And no, the loud bass and vocals don't suit the sound. Fuck it, I was listening to Focus yesterday and as much as I think it's not the greatest sounding of albums (although I do adore the atmosphere of it, but that's besides the point,) everything slots into place nicely level wise. It all sounds very cohesive, this just sounds like a bunch of elements all being forced into one place with a crowbar rather than taking the time to file the edges down to the point where everything fits together nicely. Old school death metal mixes aren't about sounding incohesive, they're about sounding raw and dirty.
Snare's really quiet too ;)
