I am the Bassist with VR, Chastain, and WildeStarr.
First post here. I guess I signed up months ago but never posted until now.
I just finished the bass tracks on the new VR CD last month, and the record should be done soon. Brad Gillis and James Rivera are now in the band along with original members Geoff Thorpe, Larry Howe, and myself.
Dave :)

I have been doing this forever... or so it seems, over 25 years and 12 or 13 albums.
I am not really one for being a teacher, but my advice as with anything is to really give it all you can and stick with it. Do it for fun, and that is the only reason to do it. Just play, play, play. If something great comes out of it like record deals, tours, the big time money... that will be wonderfull... just don't let that be the reason to want to play or you will most likely be sorry if it does not "happen" for you.
Some times it takes a bit of luck and being in the right place at the right time, it is a crap shoot in the music bizz.
I have not made a lot money doing this, but I am still doing it at age 45 and I love it. That is what keeps me going, not money or fame.

Thanx Dave! Over 25 years......wow:OMG: I'm taking up bass playing as a hobby, if something more comes out of it then cool beans. Music is life! I can't go one day with out it. :) I'm in college and I plan to get a masters in Music....maybe a doctorate...depends on funds. But most of my musical experience has come from singing. I was in choir for about 11 years. I would love to get back into it. Anyway...how did you get started playing bass?

Nothing wrong with education! I did not go to college, but I do have a degree in rock & metal! (I know... that was lame...:puke: )
I was/still am a guitar player as well and when I was starting out in bands we could never find a bass player. Everyone wanted to be a singer or guitar player, so I just decided to solve the problem and I took up bass playing. The summer of 1981 I bought a bass and spent 3 months teaching myself how to play it by learning all I could off of metal/hard rock records: Maiden, Priest, Scorpiens, Thin Lizzy, KISS, etc. So that is how I started. I have never taken any bass lessons, I am 100% self taught.
