Hi Everyone,

Prosthetic records got in touch about doing a vinyl release of our latest album, Wheels Of Impermanence. I thought it'd be a nice and special thing to have at PPUSA13.

I'm just wondering how much prog fans like vinyls and if we were to do it, would you buy it?

Thanks for your input,

I'd buy one.

So many people are using vinyl again, it has made quite a comeback over the last few years. But do a small pressing of it, make it a limited edition release, so you don't wind up sitting on a bajillion of them

But, yes, I'd buy one, and I can think of at least 3 more people I know who would buy one, too.

Hey Heavens Cry! We actually did a pre-order for our vinyls and wound up having our customers pay for it all themselves so we didn't have to buy the records at a loss. Might be a good idea!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents...I would be a no for vinyl, as I no longer have anything to play LPs on anymore. And as an out-of-towner, I would be worried about getting the disc back in one piece from Atlanta.

But I really do miss the awesome album art that went along with vinyl LPs...not to mention being able to read the lyrics without a magnifying glass...

I personally think the vinyl is actually really cool and I'd love to buy one. However, just as you are pointing out here, that is one of the sucky parts of flying in to Atlanta. I saw quite a few records I wanted to buy there at ProgPower, but no real way to get them home. Yeah, I could've probably "FedEx'ed" them back to myself, but what a PITA that is in of itself. I do still have a way to play them back, though (although right now, my dedicated two-channel rig in the basement is dismantled as I am needing to do some full renovations down there).

I gotta say worrying about bringing them back on a plane is a lame excuse. That's what suitcases are for! I bought a shitload from Ned a couple years ago and had no problem getting them back. I've done the same from all across the States and from Europe too. They're flat for chrissakes! They easily fit it in a carry on, just pack your dirty clothes around them. Problem solved.

I like vinyl and purchase several albums in vinyl format each year. But like Steve said, I wouldn't buy a vinyl album in Atlanta and attempt to take it back on a plane. It's just too large and fragile to do so. For the last few years I've bought albums via mail order, and it seems to work out well.

And no, packing it in a suitcase is not an option. I usually use a VERY small suitcase and it's already packed to the gills. Packing a record is just asking for trouble.

Uh it is an option as I stated above and easily transported. No damage ever done and I've carried multiple records on an airplane. Packing one thin vinyl record is easy if you do it right. It's all about want to. Mailorder you are at the mercy of the person packing it and the carrier. Can't tell you how many have been damaged because of that.

I like buying vynil records when they original recording was in analogue. I do not buy vynil versions of digital recordings.
