Violet Indiana Choke EP

Choke EP is the debut offering from Violet Indiana, a project started by guitarist/producer Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) and former vocalist from the British trip-hop band Mono, Siobhan De Maré. Released on the Bella Union label that Guthrie formed with the Cocteaus bassist Simon Raymonde upon their split, much of this duos work is hard to come by.
With his production and guitar skills Guthrie brings his legendary shimmering, swirling sound, but with a more organic feel. Violet Indiana are also more jazzy than much of his earlier work; the subtle drums are often played with brushes (as in standout track Torn Up) and Siobhans swooning and drowsy voice is reminiscent of more modern jazz vocals.
The post goth/dream pop sound is cemented by the atmospheric guitars, the tranquil soundscapes washing over you making for very relaxing music. At times slightly reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine, Violet Indiana have more prominent bass and vocals, and slightly stepped-down guitars. This unfortunately hard to find EP is an excellent debut
