Has anyone heard the new one from this band? I pre-ordered from The End Records and got it a few days earlier than its official release date (love The End). At first I was hesitant about the album. It seemed to be steeped in Hollywood-ish orchestral passages and choirs. The first two times through I felt that it was moderately bland. Then on the third listen I began to appreciate the more subtle nuances of the album. Subsequent listenings after that have all been rewarding. At times it's over-the-top, but I think it's still a very good helping of epic doom and gothic metal. Looking forward to the other two albums that are being released later this year that coincide with this one.

I got the album couple of days ago. I'm on my third listen.
And what exactly do you mean by "Hollywood-ish orchestral passages and choirs"?

The same type of passages you would hear in most "epic" movies of late. The heavy strings and the bombastic choirs both remind me of the style employed in major movies. It's just the impression that I get; I'm not a music major nor do I know most of the technical terms in music.

Hollywood shouldn't be credited for being the creator of this type of music though.

Saw them last weekend with Astriaal and Arcturus, they were selling the new album but I ended up so legless I forgot to pick it up by the end of the show. :( Great set, though. Will just have to order it through The End (and I can't remember how much it was being sold for at the show, but I won't be surprised if it's cheaper to order it from The End... they rule.)
