Virgin Black supporting Opeth on there Australian tour

I'm sorry, but that's just too much christianity in one evening for comfort. :erk:

Honestly though, I thought that going of the VB lyrics at least, that they were the furtherest thing from Christian..... one might go as far as to say 'anti-christian'. :err:

Just cos someone knows the lingo doesn't make them a believer. Then again I could be wrong. Shows you how much attention I pay to lyrics when listening to music *Shrugs*

Question: When did you see VB live strangelight? On shit that's right, you toured with them! :tickled:

Thanks for clearin it up Koichi, sorry for the sarcasm then, it was uncalled for.

Well as long as the music the opener bands play is worth standing through 2 hours of in wait for Opeth, then im fine with it. I like the local scene here in Melbourne, so it will be good to see what some of the bigger national bands can do, especially when playing for such a big underground band like Opeth.

Biggest bands I've seen down here are Psycroptik and Infernal Method (god they owned).

Cool. I'm not too familiar with VB but have heard nothing but good stuff about them. Paramaecium is pretty good, I have one of their CDs but they are pretty rare. As far as Christian bands go, check out Ethereal Scourge if you can find it. They are no longer together but released one CD, although it's hard to find. Very atmospheric, majestic, and unique vocals. I think they were from Australia too.

Yeah, we have a large amount of christian bands that are excpetional but are generally looked over because of the fact they are christian.

I couldn't give a fuck what religion they are, I like good music.

VB are great, both of their albums. I don't know if they are christian, at least you can't figure it out from the lyrics. And they don't preach anything, that's for sure.

OH MY F`N GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
Opeth with Virgin Black on Tour? I would spent some organs to see this hrhrhr.
Just kidding - but Virgin Black is really a great band. Not the same Style as Opeth (who else is it? *G*) but its far away from bad music.

virgin black rock!!! almost as much as Opeth do in fact. I absolutely can't wait to see them! and I'm glad they got the support slot on this tour. by the way I just found out Opeth will be playing a mixed set on this tour, according to the official website at least. oh and for those of you who were wondering, dungeon is the support act at the enmore. apparently.

now I haven't really paid much attention to the lyrics on Elegant... and Dying, but I've skimmed through them and its not like they are saying: "Worship Jesus, praise heaven, where we can all be bum-buddies in the afterlife" rather its more of an atmospheric doom metal with operatic vocals... one of my favorite releases from last year, despite the fact that I hold strong antireligious beliefs.

to the point of the thread:

YOU GET VIRGIN BLACK!!!!!111!!!!!???

FUCK YOU!!!!

I GOT DEVILDRIVER AND MOONSPELL AND OPETH DIDN'T EVEN PLAY! (Edmonton Show)

*NicodemiX is a saaaaaad panda*

Sorry for the screaming.

Virgin Black's lyrics talk alot about god and JEsus and all that...but its in a way different tone of any other band that does so.

You kind of get the sense of abandonment and despair from their music. It's very depressing. Which, can be cool...but....they overdo it a wee bit for me.

Never really realized that they were christian..but if you just read their lyrics without hearing the music. IT does look to be devoutely christian. Doesn't sound like it at all through their music.

THey're a good band...come across slightly gothic IMO.

Virgin Black
Album: Sombre Romantic
Track 5: Museum Of Iscariot

Jesus lies dying in my bed
Companions since birth...
in this stagnant dingy haunt
he never really lived.
Last night I beat him as he would not leave
My insane eyes stare at him as his welted body bleeds
Frequently I rape him as I know nothing else
He curls up like a fetus and paints his face with sadness
Now a fragment of remorse has etched
I bandage his wounds, I kiss the face of Jesus Christ but he is dead
What can I do?
You have forsaked me, called yourself messiah, expected me to follow
But now he is dead and his prophecies with him
I will bury him not as insult to your face
as I stare at his corpse one detail disturbs me
His cold stark finger points where I have not been...
From my house, a cage of rotten wood
I stumble forth to lay beneath the bush
withered bones groan,
I cultivate as the soil and I grow closer
The sun receives an empty gaze
it mourns
it knows my life is gone
No more to offer but my flesh to this soil
and a single tear marks my final prayer
a rosebud sits in the palm of your hand as I end
this flower
it blossoms

good song...interesting lyrics...not at all preachy
