VMAs 09

Yousef, I didn't mean to offend you or anything. I have a very strong live and let live attitude (Well, most of the time, anyway!), but to me MTV and VH1 are one of the few things that really get under my skin. Like a kid kicking the back of your seat on an airplane. Except. instead of kicking your seat, he's kicking you in the crotch.

Didn't want you to feel like I was berating you or anything!:)

Thats cool. I'm good man.
Last VMA I saw was the one with Metallica when they had that medley of songs at the end of the show and then they ended it with their song frantic. I don't really watch TV either, my parents were just watching it so I did too. When my parents leave I probably won't be watching anymore TV. Since they've been here I've been up to date with America's got talent too .

I used to watch the VMAs many moons ago (read: in the 90s), but I heard about Kanye's douchebaggery and chuckled. Canto, at least you weren't watching Dancing With The Stars...THEN I would have to give you serious shit ;)

Didn't watch it, but I always get a laugh out of Kanye West's antics. I can't say I feel sorry for Taylor Swift - if the biggest thing she has to worry about in life is being interrupted while giving an acceptance speech for a world-famous award she got for writing mediocre music then she's got a pretty good life.

That said, it's entirely possible the whole thing was orchestrated for publicity.

I guess the people who don't watch any TV just watch all the good series from their PC's?

Cause that's what I have TV for.

...And I like watching Moto GP.

You know what's funny? Here in Finland no-one knows who the fuck someone like Kanye West is. Atleast I don't, except for that he's apparently a hip hop artist of sort who's really big in US. And I only know that because of references on American television programs.

I need to move to Finland. Today.

Those were the days.

Too bad Russia owned you completely in the later wars...

While we did pretty well not so long ago!

And we still have that fucking conscription. Whee! I'm going to army in 9 months. Fun fun!

Why are you going into the army?!?!

Ohhhhhhhhhh wait I googled that word that you said in the same paragraph. Okay.
Lucky me, (and my Dad), they removed the conscription in Kuwait back in 88. lol

I don't watch commercials if I have a choice not to, and I don't like to be restricted to one episode a week or anything like that (unless the series season is airing for the first time of course). Watching series on the PC is a much more comfortable option for me.

As I recall, they owned Finland too, literally, after the Swedish Empire fell and all those little pesky countries banded together to claim Swedish provinces.

When exactly? I don't know jack shit about Finnish history other than what's entwined with Swedish.

Basically, Finland was a part of Sweden until Russia took over in early 1800s and gave us autonomy. Then we eventually got independence in 1917.

Then during the WWII Russia tried to conquer Finland, but failed.

It was really quite a serious situation, cause Finland wasn't getting any military help from anywhere. The English and French "supported" us, but couldn't offer real help. Needless to say, the Swedes didn't give a fuck, so finns faced the threat alone.

In fact Swedes were so hung up with being neutral, they didn't allow the Brits to pass through Sweden to help Finland. Fair!

But hey, against Russia we lost eventually (surprising, right?), but atleast we're still independent.

We also let the Nazis pass through Sweden from Norway to Finland. And we gave them steel throughout the war. I know all that.

I still don't get the 'doing good' part though. You had famines killing off huge chunks of the population, you had civil war and you were under threat or conflict with the ruskies like all the time.

I just meant that we have a more successful recent war history (against Russia) than Sweden.

I don't mean that we were like doing fantastic.

But I'm really not very excited about the fact that army is still involuntary here. We aren't really at the risk of getting in another conflict right now and it's just wasting tons of money... And 6 to 12 months of my life.
