Vocalist WADE BLACK Quits LEATHERWOLF - Nov. 7, 2006
Vocalist Wade Black (LEATHERWOLF, CRIMSON GLORY, SEVEN WITCHES) has issued the following update:

"Greetings metal freaks worldwide!

"I wanted to take a few minutes of your time to update you on the latest goings on.

"I have been fortunate enough to travel the world bringing metal to the masses. Without a doubt, the best thing to come out of my metal career has been traveling the globe and meeting the heart of metal — the fans — and giving everything I have to give on the stage for you. I have absolutely been able to live the dream.

"There is, of course, the reality side of things, and this is where things often get unpleasant.

"Like many other musicians in our genre, I have a career outside of music that is necessary in order to provide a reasonable lifestyle for my family. If I have to miss work to fly out to do recording sessions, rehearsals, or tours, I don't get paid.

"While I have enjoyed giving a new voice to LEATHERWOLF and supporting the new album, the harsh economic reality of my current musical situation is that the compensation for the studio and live work I've done hasn't even offsetted the lost wages I've missed while supporting LEATHERWOLF in the studio and on the road.

"More important than the financial aspects is the time away from my family. My wife and children have been very patient and supportive of me, and they deserve to be the highest priority in my life. You only have one chance in life to be the best parent you can be. There are no studio tricks or retakes to gloss over the missed opportunities to be there for your family.

"I am therefore letting you all know that effective immediately, I will no longer be singing for LEATHERWOLF.

"My sincerest best wishes go out to Leatherwolf for continued success, and also my sincerest thanks to Chris Leibundgut at A.R.M. productions for his support and guidance!

"Is this the end of Wade Black's career of metal? HELL NO!

"After much thought and consideration, I have decided to start my own band locally. This will allow me to complete the solo material I've been working on over the years, play out live on a regular basis (something you can't do when the rest of the band is 3,000 miles away), and eventually release an album under my new metal identity: BLACK REIGN.

"We will be playing material from the four internationally released albums I have done as well as the new BLACK REIGN material, and maybe a few covers of some metal classics. This will allow me to continue my career as a musician without sacrificing my commitment to my family."

LEATHERWOLF's latest album, "World Asylum" (featuring Black), came out in Euroe in June via Massacre Records.

Fuck that.:erk:
Can't say this was a massive surprise though, he's yet to record a second album with any band I think. Actually it's kinda good to see he's a guy who has his priorities straight, if you have a family to feed you do what you gotta do. Thanks for World Asylum anyway.:kickass:

FUCK! And I fall for them in part because of Wade energetic deliver at PPVII, he even signed my booklet of ""World Asylum" (I guess now it more valuable). I hope they can get a replacement soon because I'm now a complete Leatherwolf fan.

I've never been a big WB fan, but thought he did agreat job with Leatherolf at progpower...even on the older LW songs he sounded very good.

I can only say that I am bitterly disapointed by Wade Black. Why join a band and then leave after one album? The family argument sounds hollow to me. Did he not have a famlily when he joined the band? Did he not think about the financial consequences before he joined Leatherwolf?

Me thinks that Wade used Crimson Glory, Seven Witches and now Leatherwolf as vehicles for his own career.

Dude, you took the thoughts right outta my brain!

Joining a band, any band, well, unless it is Iron Maiden or the like, will never get you rich. Wade has been humping this shit for years and he knows that. Like Hawk said, he has always had ulterior motives... and he basically has lost his credibility because of that.

Ah, credibility schmedibility. He's sung on a couple of great albums (Astronomica and World Asylum) and that's all that matters. I'll rather have him doing one-off gigs than not doing anything at all. James Rivera is an even worse bandhopper but he always delivers so who cares? Also, Wade's reason for quitting wasn't "not getting rich" but "not making a living". There's a difference.

I'll be looking forward for his "solo" stuff for sure.

Dunno, Mike DiMeo used the same argument not to tour with Riot but he did sung in the new record. It's not the first time some musicians come with something like that, if not they can always quote too many bands at the same time, or musical differences :D

The fact is that if you make music you professional life you're going to struggle until you see some decent money, more in true metal (in pop or rap is easy, just sell some crappy videos and radio play), where touring is the money (and not albums sales usually).

I haven't heard the new Leatherwolf record but I have mixed feelings on Wade Black's vocals : I thought he did a fine job on "Astronomica", then I heard average to fairly good permances with Seven Witches, and lately he was mediocre to bad in Leash Law IMO.
