Vocals Industrial Metal

Currently i'm working with my roommate on some industrial/synth metal, and having a hard time coming up with ideas for vocals. I've listened to a lot of industrial bands and have never been impressed by the likes of their vocals. They all seem formulaic in that they are either, talking with a distorting type effect over them, or sound like a lame 80's depeche mode cover band rip off (see absurd minds). I'm trying to make the vocals more interesting so that people like myself would actually listen to it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Vocals like those in 'The Gathering' always appealed to me because they seem like a driving melody in themselves. I really like it occasionally when the vocalist will just let go of the need to say words and just humm a melody along to a wall of sound.
