Seriously though, this is the commercialisation of metal which we're all too familiar with. Here's hoping that maybe kids will listen to this then gradually progress onto stuff like Arch Enemy or something!

i don't think so - japanese people like all sorts of random crazy shit. regular metal wouldn't cut it like this does in there.

European bands like Sonata Arctica and Children of Bodom are pretty big in Japan.

I have impression that Japanese people just try to copy USA culture but fail at it and we sometimes get pretty cool things and something we get things like this.

For example, lots of Japanese jazz is at it's core a bit naive, but what you get can be more pleasant musical experience that then the western did-you-hear-how-just-played-that-off-key-note jazz.
