CENTURY MEDIA Celebrates Anniversary With 'Covering 20 Years Of Extremes' - Aug. 28, 2008
2008 has become an extremely exciting year in the history of Century Media Records, one of the world's most respected independent homes for heavy music, as the label is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The company's anniversary year started off with an extremely successful, first-ever yard sale/party at the Century Media office in Dortmund (Germany) in June, where several hundred guests partied out on exclusive live shows by ANGEL DUST and TURISAS. Video footage of the event can be viewed below. A photo gallery is available at this location.

To further celebrate this anniversary, Century Media Records will release the very special 2CD compilation "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" on September 15 in Europe and on October 14 in North America. The all-covers release includes 32 mostly exclusive recordings and will be available in stores for the price of one CD. Sticking to the "keep it in the family" slogan, CM approached its artists about covering songs from other acts within the label's repertoire and the response from the musicians was overwhelming. Some choices were obvious and homages to the bands that influenced them, others were inspired picks. This combination ended up leading to a heavily entertaining and truly special final result across all sub-genres of heavy music.

Never heard this band before... and the whole thing doesn't sounds promising at all. Still, this will be the first officially released bloodbath cover.

This compilation looks only half worth a listen. I am looking forward to hearing the Breeding Death cover though. I'm not getting my hopes up or down or whatever, I just like to hear a totally new interpretation of a song. I actually prefer they mix and match band genres.

Oh I didnt even notice that Arch Enemy is covering "Book of Heavy Metal", hahaha...that should be a riot.

I hope they keep the "MMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL" part in the beginning. That shit is my ringtone.

14. CRYPTOPSY covering STRAPPING YOUNG LAD's "Oh My Fucking God"
this got me excited for a second, but then it all came crashing in on me :( craptopsy

Bah... I've pretty well lost faith in Cryptopsy... Their last album was a huge letdown and now theyre covering garbage like Strapping Young Lad... Puke.

They have it on the Dark Tranquility myspace (or maybe it was the century media myspace...one of the two)...he uses a mixture of growls and cleans.

Broken is one of my favorite songs from the "non death metal Sentenced era", and considering that...I was pretty impressed. There were a few parts of the song that I just wanted to listen to the original because I like Ville's voice a little more, but overall it was a great cover.

If you like Sentenced, you'll like it.

I love Sentenced (and I like -older- DT too), but I didn't like this cover at all really, I really don't like it when growls are used where originally clean vocals are used (except when it's done totally over the top). It's an interesting match/mix, DT & Sentenced, but it didn't work out in this case I thought. Gotta add that I listened to it only once.

just listened to it, it's not bad but, they shouldn't have slowed certain parts of the songs.

i'm just glad that they didn't do anything obscenely metalcore in it

It sounds quite decent... far better than I thought it would be, I don't like the way the vocalist "articulate" the lyrics, though.

My final rate... listenable.
