Anyone bought their album? Does it all sound like "Broken By Refraction"? I've been wanting to listen to them for ages, seeing as no-one is apparently able to talk about them without mentioning Anaal Nathrakh...well, I was pretty underwhelmed by that track.

It does kinda sound like AN - only not as good. Not as brutal. Not as savage. Not as sadistic or misanthropic. Mildly pissed off, but not the blood-vomiting, face-removing rage of the band they're being compared favourably with. So, anyone got the full-length? Is that just a one-off duff track?

Read my review of the album hear at UM. I also have an interview with Brian Livoti (vocals) here at UM.

Watchmaker isn't black metal. They do have the minimalist, screw-everybody-and-die attitude of early black metal. Anaal Nathrakh also has this attitude, which is why they have been compared. I would put them more in a category with Converge. Although, that isn't even exactly accurate. I think Watchmaker is getting such high praise because they aren't affraid to do their own thing. They aren't following the Boston scene (i.e. Shadows Fall). Anyway . . . check out the review and interview.

By the way . . . I am being sent a rerecorded version of "Kill.Crush.Destroy". It is supposed to be much thicker and more blistering. So, I'll let you know what we might expect from them in the future. Read the interview to find out why it was rerecorded.

I think the new version is only going to be a CDR, but it hasn't shown up yet. I might want to keep the original, just to have the album cover and all that. Let me see what he sends, and I'll get back with you. I think the new version hasn't been sent to the CD pressing company yet.
