We tested out some kickmics at school...

Guess what mics we used ;) We used four different mics, the first clip has 8 hits of each mic. The second clip has combination of the first and last mic with EQ and compression on the mids and highpass at 31hz.

edit: so the mics were Sennheiser e901, Sennheiser MD421, AKG D112 and a DIY subkick. The kickdrum was a 20" Premier Artist birch with a Remo head, pedal had a felt beater. We were planning to put a Shure Beta52 in there too, but we couldn't find it.

sweet
so i was not very right..
the sennheiser sounds mint with the sub for a rocky/metal sound

Hm, the Sennheiser sounds pretty much like a beta 91, the 421 reminds of a beta52 and the d112 sounds like d112 or in other words: bad.

i really like that e901, real clear, has thump, but has the click, the clarity. Mixed with the sub, just brings it to a whole new level. def a metal combo!

And when live I just love that mic because it really doesn't need almost any processing, but I still use a noise gate and usually dip some mud off with EQ and boost the lowshelf about 6dB, but compared to say B52 or D112 where you have to boost the highmids and highshelf atleast 6dB each to bring the attack to your face, e901 really has a lot more defined hi-mids
