WEAPON UK SIGN WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH PURE STEEL RECORDS

PURE STEEL RECORDS are Proud to announce the official signing of NWOBHM Legends WEAPON UK! A band with a rich tradition who have influenced the likes of Metallica and so many other bands around the world! In 1980 Weapon (uk) supported Motorhead on their mammoth 32 date 'Ace Up Your Sleeve' UK Tour, following which Lemmy proclaimed them to be "the best band we've ever toured with"

With this signing, the band are currently working on their forthcoming new album that will see its release in 2018 on CD, Vinyl and DDL!

Along with their new album, Pure Steel are also set on re-releasing their Classic 1980 "Set the Stage Alight (35th Anniversary Edition)". The album which stood dormant for many years will now be made available as special vinyl release presenting it to metal fans as it was meant to be!

Finally Pure Steel will be re-releasing the critically acclaimed "Rising From The Ashes" also as a special vinyl release. This was originally released in 2014 on CD & Digital Download only.

WEAPON UK - Studioupdate and Tourdates

NWOBHM band WEAPON UK continue their pre-production work on their forthcoming album which will be their first for Pure Steel Records. The band will momentarily break away from the Studio for two important live performances in January.

After their live appearances, the band will Officially enter Scream Studios in Croydon to begin recording the new album, with the, still, working title being "Bulletproof'". The sessions will begin on February 9th and are expected to wrap up, sometime, in April as the band will then hit the road once again for The "Onwards & Upwards" UK Mini Tour.

WEAPON UK „Rising From The Ashes" - Cover, Tracklist, Release Date: 27th April 2018

The release date of the of the album „Rising From The Ashes“ by the NWoBHM Band WEAPON UK on CD is April 27th, 2018. The pre-order phase will start on April 13th, 2018 in our webshop.

Beside the compilation “Set The Stage Alight” Pure Steel will also release the bands 'critically accalimed' first full album “Rising From The Ashes” released in 2014.

Until now the record only has been available as a self-release on CD by the band. Here, the London quartet featuring original members Jeff Summers (guitar) and Danny Hynes (vocals) also deliver the finest “British Steel” with a strong production. Although they deliver the songs with a modern sound, the songs are still full of classical Heavy Metal, with a slight Rock’n’Roll edge! Included on the album is a re-recording of a 1980's demo “Killer Instinct” Written by vocalist Danny Hynes. This track features the original 1980's line up of Hynes/Summers/Downes/Bisland.

A really enjoyable, modern piece for all lovers of unknown NWoBHM masters.

The current line-up of Weapon UK Danny Hynes - vocals, Jeff Summers - guitar, vocals, Tony Forsythe - bass, vocals, Darren Lee - drums have recorded a version of the classic Thin Lizzy song ‘The Rocker’ which is included on the album as ‘Special Bonus Track’.

“Set The Stage Alight” must be considered one of the biggest hymns of the entire New Wave Of British Heavy Metal period. Just ask a certain Lars Ulrich. (More of that a bit later). “Set The Stage Alight” originally appeared on the B-Side of Weapon’s debut 7”/12” single »It’s A Mad Mad World« (issued in 1980).

The original “classic” line-up of Weapon consisted of Bruce Bisland (drums), Jeff Summers (guitars), Barry Downes (bass) and Danny Hynes (vocals). The band was initially called Fast Relief but changed its name to Weapon in early 1980.

People have for a long time been baffled by the astonishing similarities between “Set The Stage Alight” and Metallica’s “Hit The Lights”, especially regarding the main riff. Has the band ever talked to Lars or James about this? Danny Hynes explains: “Anyone who knows the history of Weapon will know that ‘Set The Stage Alight’ was written by Jeff in 1979, three to four years before ‘Hit The Lights’. Metallica actually lifted the whole intro and used it for their song ‘Hit The Lights’!”

Due to management problems, the original incarnation of Weapon split up in mid-1981 before having recorded their long awaited debut album. Pure Steel’s »Set The Stage Alight« record compiled on glorious vinyl what would have been Weapon’s first full-length album. Danny Hynes explains: “We would have completed the four demos and put twelve songs on the album. All the finished tracks were recorded between July and August 1980 at The Manor Studios, Oxford (which was also the home of Richard Branson) and Townhouse Studios, Shepherds Bush, London. The demos were recorded at Alvic Studios in West Kensington, London.”

Weapon did briefly reform in 1984 and even recorded some demos with Andy Scott of Sweet. In 2014, their proper comeback album »Rising From The Ashes« was released. Danny Hynes comments on the exclusive vinyl edition put out Pure Steel Records: “»Rising From The Ashes« was a direct continuation of our early material but we've matured as people and musicians over the intervening years so have a much more modern sound. Overall the material its a bit more melodic, a bit more polished. We received incredible reviews by the press and fans. My personal favourites are ‘Ride The Mariah’, ‘Alemain’ and ‘Burning Skies’. I wrote the lyrics to ‘Burning Skies’ on the flight to London to record the album. I had the music on my phone and was thinking about the 9/11 disaster and the whole thing came to me in a matter of minutes.”

Due to the epoch in their founding time, WEAPON UK will forever be considered as a NWoBHM group. And of course, there is the British 80’s lifeblood in them, which flares up in rock / metal and drives the listener to ecstasy!

WEAPON was originally formed in 1980 as FAST RELIEF, before they caused a furor as WEAPON in the underground. Despite critical acclaim, and a major UK tour supporting Motörhead, the band never got a chance to establish itself through a variety of managerial problems and broke up after a couple of years. Fast forward to 2005 and the original lineup reformed for a couple of warm updates in London before a very successful appearance at Headbangers-Open-Air Ball, Germany on July 8th.

In 2010 Danny & Jeff decided to reform the band full time. Their first real album "Rising from the Ashes" was released in 2014, almost as a comeback album! This was preceded by a renaming of WEAPON in WEAPON UK for ‘legal reasons’

The two original members - Vocalist Danny Hynes and Guitarist Jeff Summer, along with the new rhythm section of Tony Forsythe (Bass/Vocals), and Darren Lee (Drums) release their new album ‘Ghosts Of War‘ in September 2019. The album contains ten new compositions + a remake of their 1980s single classic "Set The Stage Alight" as a vinyl bonus track. And wow, this side got a real heavy weight. In the style of SAXON and DEMON, WEAPON UK brings every traditional metal / rocker heart to a higher frequency. On the title track "Ghosts of War" the band have a ‘guest vocalist’ the beautiful Irish girl Clare Cunningham (ex-THUNDERMOTHER).
