Weird bass amp problem

My bass players amp (Mesa Big Block Titan V-12) has had a strange problem about 3 or 4 times now over the past few months. It's working fine, then completely dies out. No sound. All the lights are still on though. If you turn the amp off and back on again it works fine. Any ideas before getting it checked out?

Sounds to me like the internal protection circuit is going into "protect" (which are designed to protect the amp from overheating, etc.).
I would take it to a shop but it would be worth calling mesa and describing the issue first. Is it possible there is an impedance mismatch with the cab?
